Being in Berlin for the first time, people are often so overwhelmed by its history and big sights that they miss the most interesting part of it - its backyards, places equally meaningful, but a bit less banal. What about a real bunker that was bought by a private investor and became their residence and museum of contemporary art? Or checkpoint for trains between West and East Berlin - how many tears and stories it has seen. I will take you off the beaten track to see how the city lives and rages, adding new meanings to its realities, how a playground appears on the former cemetery of the 19th century, fenced by a house wall with traces of bullets and shrapnel from the Second World War. We'll visit the most popular district of Hackescher markt courtyards, one of the best preserved areas of the city, where you will be able to imagine what pre-war Berlin looked like. We'll walk through former Jewish quarter and cemetery, see graffiti courtyards, the most famous first dance hall in the city and much more.
We start in the very center of the city, at Friedrichstrasse and will visit: - River Spree - Palace of Tears - Admiralpalast and Golden 20s in Berlin - Bunker from WWII time - Hackescher markt and its famous backyards - Art galleries, cafes, monuments and squats of Spandauer vorstadt Tour can be customized upon request.
