Welcome to Berlin! I'm Marriette and I'd love to show you what Berlin has to offer! Ask any non-German how they ended up in Berlin and you’ll often hear the same story: “I came on holiday and never left.” And that’s exactly how it happened for me. I arrived fresh from Manchester University with a BA in Sociology, ready to escape the drizzle of the motherland and dive into something new. What started as a brief fling with Berlin turned into a full-blown love affair, and 19 years later, I’m still here. I’ve mastered the language, gained German citizenship, and built a life I never saw coming. I’ve been a full-time tour guide since 2006, and I still wake up excited to head to work, surely a sign I’m in the right job. Berlin is unlike any other city: layered with history, bursting with contradictions, raw and resilient, constantly reinventing itself. It’s not always pretty, but it’s always real. And it never, ever gets boring. Over the years, I’ve guided every type of tour you can imagine: private one-on-ones, lively school and university groups, romantic strolls with couples, full-blown 40-person bus tours, you name it. On foot, by bike, segway, chauffeur-driven car or coach, I adapt to whatever suits your style. Whether you want to tick off the must-see sights or uncover Berlin’s hidden nooks and off-the-radar gems, I’ll tailor the experience to your interests. Berlin is a living, breathing creature with a personality all its own. It’s reeled me in for good, and I’d love to show you exactly why. Looking forward to meeting you! - Native English Speaker - 19 years of experience as a professional Berlin Tourguide - BA Degree in Sociology from Manchester University I am not a driver, but I can arrange for a vehicle and driver at an additional cost upon request.

Discover the gripping story of Berlin during the Cold War on this four-hour walking tour through the former East and West. This is a deep dive into a city once split by ideology, fear, and concrete and how Berliners lived, resisted, and rebuilt on both sides of the Wall. We’ll visit key Cold War landmarks like the Berlin Wall Memorial, Checkpoint Charlie, and former border crossings, plus hidden corners that reveal everyday life in the GDR. From socialist boulevards to West Berlin’s symbols of freedom, you’ll walk the real fault lines of history. You’ll hear stories of daring escapes, secret police surveillance, ghost stations, and how Berlin became the epicentre of a global standoff. Whether you're into Cold War politics, GDR life, or just want to feel the history beneath your feet, this tour is tailored to you. The pace is relaxed, with plenty of time for photos (I’ll be your paparazzi). A private car can also be arranged for an additional cost.
We will visit Berlin's most important Cold War historical sites including; Palace of Tears, Checkpoint Charlie, The 3 remaining sections of the Berlin Wall inc. the East-Side Gallery, The 'Death Strip', The Chapel of Reconciliation, East-Side Gallery, Ghost Stations, Escape Tunnels. If you would like to include any additional sites, please do let me know and we can personalise your tour.
