Welcome to Berlin! I'm Marriette and I'd love to show you what Berlin has to offer! Ask any non-German how they ended up in Berlin and you’ll often hear the same story: “I came on holiday and never left.” And that’s exactly how it happened for me. I arrived fresh from Manchester University with a BA in Sociology, ready to escape the drizzle of the motherland and dive into something new. What started as a brief fling with Berlin turned into a full-blown love affair, and 19 years later, I’m still here. I’ve mastered the language, gained German citizenship, and built a life I never saw coming. I’ve been a full-time tour guide since 2006, and I still wake up excited to head to work, surely a sign I’m in the right job. Berlin is unlike any other city: layered with history, bursting with contradictions, raw and resilient, constantly reinventing itself. It’s not always pretty, but it’s always real. And it never, ever gets boring. Over the years, I’ve guided every type of tour you can imagine: private one-on-ones, lively school and university groups, romantic strolls with couples, full-blown 40-person bus tours, you name it. On foot, by bike, segway, chauffeur-driven car or coach, I adapt to whatever suits your style. Whether you want to tick off the must-see sights or uncover Berlin’s hidden nooks and off-the-radar gems, I’ll tailor the experience to your interests. Berlin is a living, breathing creature with a personality all its own. It’s reeled me in for good, and I’d love to show you exactly why. If this is your first visit to Berlin then I would highly recommend starting with the Highlights Tour. Within the 6 hours we will thoroughly explore the historical city centre. As well seeing all of the most important sites we will also visit some of Berlin's hidden gems. Berlin's history goes back over 800 years; beginning as a small river-side village, it then became home to the Prussian Royals and capital of the German Empire, before battling through the First and Second World Wars, to be tragically divided into East and West during the GDR. Whether your interests are in the Third Reich, the Cold War or simply are about life in Berlin today, we can adjust the tour to make sure you are happy. The pace of the tour is very relaxed and I will be at hand the whole day to be your paparazzi. This tour can be by foot or with public/private transportation (at an additional cost). Please be advised - all tours take place no matter what the weather is, I'm British which means I'm very much used to the rain. Please check the weather on the day of our tour and be prepared with jackets and umbrellas if necessary.
