Dear Traveler, "Ich bin ein Berliner!" John F. Kennedy's famous words doubtless apply to me. I was born in West-Berlin's American Sector in February 1971, and I grew up in the British Sector. In the French Sector, I went to school, and, moreover, political developments after the Berlin Wall was built forced parts of my family to live in East-Berlin. To see them, we had to cross the border, which I did many times until the Wall fell in 1989. From 1991 to 2015, I served in the German Air Force. Therefore, my tours focus on Germany's, Prussia's, and Berlin's history, politics and politico-military affairs. I would be more than happy to provide a broad spectrum of information about Germany's military from 1640 until today. I began to provide Berlin tours in 2001. It started with military colleagues and friends. Since 2015, I have been working as a professional tour guide. Since both cities' history is strongly connected, I am also offering tours in Potsdam. You will be truly impressed by spending some hours in this beautiful city. Potsdam is much more than the two world-famous palaces Sanssouci and Cecilienhof (Potsdam Conference 1945). Also impressive is the Bridge of Spies (Glienicker Brücke), which connects Berlin and Potsdam. My understanding of being a professional ToursByLocals guide is that I am doubtless willing and capable to offer a comprehensive service. As a matter of course, I can arrange your visit of museums, shows, and other events. Please, do not hesitate to ask for recommendations for restaurants, coffee houses, bars, etc. If you have special wishes or "must sees", just let me know them, please. Sincerely, Alexander I finished two university degrees: one German degree in educational science (University of the Federal Armed Forces, Hamburg) as well as a U.S. MA in Security Studies (Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, CA). In my master thesis, I analysed the end of the Republic of Weimar and Hitler's way to power in the early 1930s. During my military career, I also joined the German General Staff Training. Moreover, I wrote several research papers about transatlantic security.

Overview of your Berlin tour
Let us spend a great day together! We will discover Berlin's touristic highlights, but also areas where only locals are around. You will get fantastic impressions and a lot of background information about the city's history, German politics, and how it feels to be a "Berliner". We will go to stores, which have been in business for decades and grab a curry sausage or a coffee at the best locations. Moreover, you will experience a typical Berlin style lunch and enjoy German food like my grandma used to cook. If you like beer, we will not miss the chance to visit a typical "corner pub". Our tour will include palaces, famous buildings, great stores, and Berlin's most beautiful areas. This is an excellent way to experience the city's heartbeat. You will never forget this unique day!

We had requested Alex take his one-day, 10 hour tour, and split it into 2 days for my wife and myself. Alex was most accommodating to this request and it worked out perfectly. Over the two days we were able to explore a lot of Berlin at a comfortable and casual pace. We never felt rushed or pressed for time. We got around by walking and public transportation, which Alex took care of. Traveling around buy both metro and underground really added to the experience. Alex was a fantastic guide. He brought both knowledge and local insight to all that we saw. Also, being a “Berliner” he brought just a tiny bit of “edge” to his local commentary and how the city has changed during his life that made is very real! Would definitely recommend both Alex and his tours.
