Welcome, My name is Eran, a passionate lover of Berlin and a permanent resident of the city. Love brought me to Berlin in 2006, love kept me here, and now I am able to show you my favorite city from the eyes of a local with a vast perspective of the world. I was Born in Israel and already lived half of my life elsewhere - seven years in the USA (Boston, Los Angeles, Tucson), one year in India and 19 years in Berlin - where I settled down with my family and my passion for history. Since 2017 I have been working as a tour guide in Berlin and its surroundings, always glad to show the main attractions and hidden gems of this city and tell its story, for better or worse. Born to a post-WWII refugee and a grandson of holocaust survivors, I was growing up with knowledge about the dark side of Germany’s history. After settling down in Berlin I discovered the beauty of the city and the changes it has experienced to become the exciting, inclusive and accepting place it is today, and it will be my pleasure to show you all those sides on your visit. Together we can: - visit the historical sites along the story of Berlin through its ancient and modern times; - focus on specific areas of its contemporary history - follow the rise and the fall of the third Reich and view the cold war era that split the city into two with the berlin wall in between; - explore jewish life in the city and the development of its community through its highest peaks and lower depths; - visit Potsdam, the summer home of the former royal family for generations with its marvelous collection of parks and palaces. I am fluent in English and Hebrew. I speak German at a high level and can lightly communicate in Greek and Esperanto. I am a certified member of the Berlin guides association. See you soon!

The city of Berlin, nowadays a symbol of unity and inclusivity, used to be everything but this. The end of WWII brought major political and military powers to divide the city into four sectors and two unnatural parts - East and West Berlin - and the later-erected wall defined this forced difference even more, making the division a physical and ideological reality for twenty eight years. On this tour we will walk along the path of the Berlin wall; stop at the the 'palace of tears' museum, where a former checkpoint used to stand. We will explore the stories of the wall along the Berlin wall memorial: the day it showed up in the life of the city, the ways of oppression it acted, the failed and successful escape attempts from East to West; the tightly controlled conditions of life dictated by the Stasi (the East German secret police and one for the most repressive agencies in the world at the time); and the turning events that brought the world to watch the wall fall and Germany united once again.
During our cold war exploration we will be visiting the following sites: - Palace of tears - Berlin wall memorial - Checkpoint Charlie - Memorial to the victims of the Berlin wall - The Church of Reconciliation - The ghost stations of East Berlin 'where trains do not stop' - Site of escape tunnels
