Licenced tour guide specialised in DDay and French heritage. Dear travelers, Welcome in Normandy ! I was born and raised in Normandy, DDay is in my DNA, since my childhood I heard a lot about it thanks to Pierre, my grandfather. I remember all the books, all the photos he had and all his passion for WWII and DDay. But I remember above all the first time he told me about Paul Andert. During WWI, Marie, my grandfather's aunt, met and American soldier named Charles Andert. They fell in love and after the end of the war he came back in France to marry her and they moved to Saint-Louis (Missouri) in 1921. They had 4 boys : Pierre, Charles, Joseph and Paul Andert. By the age of 17, Paul decided to join the US Army in 1940, one year before US declared war. He served as an infantry platoon sergeant in the 41st Armored Infantry. He served in Africa, Sicily and Europe during 7 major campaigns and 2 major invasion : Operation HUSKY in Sicily in July 1943 and Operation NEPTUNE in Normandy in June 1944. He served under the command of General George Patton and General Dwight Eisenhower. By the age of 21, the 7th of June 1944 he was in Normandy. He landed on Omaha. He was wounded twice but he survived. Paul spent all his life to share his history, to honor his comrades in arms. He died the 6th of June 2020. Today, Paul is not here anymore so this is my mission to keep his history and all Paul's memories alive through my words and myself. Join me to share my passion and dive into the heart of history. I was born in Caen so how can you expect a better guide than someone born and raised in the city ?! I grew up around the streets of the city center, I worked during 3 summers at the Caen tourist office. I know this city as the back of my hand ! Let's stroll together through this historical city. Let's discover together the city of William the Conqueror, his castle, the two abbeys and the city center. Of course Caen is not the only must-see in Normandy, you can discover the medieval city of Bayeux with the Cathedrale of Notre-Dame and of course the well-known Mont Saint Michel. With me, you'll come to visit Normandy and you'll leave loving it. A guided visit is a full experience. During a tour with me you don't just walk through a place : you connect with it. Choose a guide is not only a choice of being with someone for a day : it's the difference between seeing and understanding. That means discover details and stories you would never notice on your own. A guide brings places to life and instead of just visiting, you explore. Choose a guided visit, choose the experience with me. All my tours are adaptable depending on your age/points of interest/hobbies etc... I'm here to offer the best of the Norman experience ! My passion for DDay is here thanks to my grandfather and my family bond with DDay gave me a special feeling for this period. During this tour you'll have the opportunity to discover 3 main places : - Pointe du Hoc where 225 american Rangers from the 2nd Rangers Battalion landed. - Omaha Beach, Bloody Omaha, 6 000 casualties in the morning of the 6th of June 1944. - The American Cemetery in Colleville-sur-Mer, 152 acres maintened by the ABMC with more than 9 380 graves. If you need it you'll also have the possibility to have some free time to pay respect, explore on your own. During this tour we'll walk and discover according to your energy of the day but the sites are quite big so don't hesitate to put your best shoes to walk with me around the area. The Norman weather changes quickly so I recommend you to take some equipment to be comfortable. Feel free to contact me to customize your OWN tour. I'll be glad to welcome you and to help you to discover this piece of the Norman History.
