I've been lucky enough to be a tour guide in Normandy since 2007 after having studied tourism in Paris. I couldn't have imagined then how much I would value each day I live and work in this wonderful and historic region. Whether you've been reading about the sites you want to see here in Normandy and have finally managed to get the chance to come and see it for yourself, or you just want you and your family to develop a better understanding of the events that happened here, I appreciate that this is very likely a once in a lifetime occassion and I will try to make your visit an unforgettable experience for you. As a visual person I need to see something with my own eyes to try to understand it and I think many people are like this as well. Consequently I work with maps and photos to help you to understand locations and how and why things happened there. It's also great to see the difference between then and now. I only give private tours because I believe that conversations during our day together make all the difference. We can walk out on the beach as much as you want, and whenever anything isn't clear, please just ask a question, that's why I'm here! Often visitors end their day with me and say they've enjoyed learing about the history of the events, but what I find so passionate about it is that everyone has their own interests and perhaps personal stories to share. I will talk about the overall history (and for the D-Day tours this will include as well personal and local stories of people involved). Whenever I can, I'll take little side streets to show you what Normandy really looks like and how people live, and lived, out here in the country side. This tour will show you the main sites where US soldiers landend on D-Day. We will get out on the sites and on the beaches (if the tide allows) and you will hear what happended on those sites in the early hours of June 6th. I will show you the remaining bunkers and gun positions and point out specific actions that took place on those sites. We will have as well the chance during the day to pay our respects to some of the men and women who gave their lives for our freedom today in visiting the American cemetery. This is a very unique place, very peacefull, and overlooking Omaha, the beach where Allied soldiers had the highest casualties on D-Day. I usually prefer showing the real battle sites and the cemetery and don't spend much time in musuems. If you wish to see a museum though, it'll shorten the time spend on the other sites.
Eva Ruttger led an amazing tour of the American beaches in Normandy. Her knowledge of the events leading up to and after the invasion itself added great context to the events of June 6, 1944. Eva’s knowledge of local roads and lunch spots kept us from getting bogged down behind tour buses!
Eva did an excellent job. She was full of information about all aspects of the D-Day invasion. She even presented visual aids in the form of pictures and diagrams that help clarify the information of her presentation. She aligned the structure of the tour to basically follow the same timeline of the invasion and would give us the best views of the sites as they were actually present during D-Day. For example, she took us to the beach areas at low tide to show how expansive the width of the beach was during the invasion. She let us proceed through the tour at our pace. We never felt rush. Always gave us plenty of time to do our photo ops. She was always considerate of taking breaks as needed throughout the day. Eva was easy to understand. The car that she transported us in for the tours was very comfortable and well-maintained. She would answer any questions we would send via the app.

Liebe Eva, danke für die vielen wundervollen Eindrücke, die kleinen Anekdoten und dein super Fachwissen über die Landungsstrände, Museen, Friedhöfe usw. Wir hatten unsere Kids dabei und Eva ist super auf diese eingegangen und hat keine blutigen Details erzählt, also alles sehr kindgerecht! Es gibt viel zu wenige geführte Touren in deutscher Sprache! Eva was a wonderful tour guide. We were a group of 6 and the car accommodations were very comfortable. She was very knowledgable. She suggested a roadside cafe for lunch that was very good. It was nice because we had a great, quick lunch leaving more time for interesting historical stops. We would definitely highly recommend Eva for your tour of Normandy.

I'll drive my 7-seater VW Sharan, which is air-conditioned and from 2020. The seats are very comfortable. On the sites we'll walk often on sand and sometimes uneven ground so make sure you wear good walking shoes.
