I recommend “Tours by Locals” for tours. Prior to our tour our guide did a lot of research about the things we wanted to see. We always received prompt replies to our emails sent during the whole process from time of booking to the actual tour.
Elena did an awesome job. She was on time, knowledgeable and empathetic. We were a small group of 2 couples, with divergent interests; she made the whole experience fulfilling for all 4 of us. If you need a guide for the DDay experience, she should be your first choice.
If I could give Elena a 6 star rating I would! The private tour that Elena organized was well beyond my expectations. She researched and organized an amazing personal tour of my Great Uncle's regiment's route after landing on Juno beach on D-Day. I learned things about what he and his colleagues endured that were well beyond any research I could have done from Canada. Elena is a knowledgeable guide and her passion for her work is evident. She is a true pleasure to spend a day with!
Elena is an outstanding tour-guide who wowed us over a 1/2 day tour of D-Day beaches. She is deeply versed in D-Day history & her English is excellent. She satisfied my thirst for historical context, while patiently answering questions from my 7 year old. She humanized the Allied soldiers sacrifice, the occupied French citizens' hardship and even the plight of German soldiers. Also, Elena tailored the tour to our needs adding the Overlord museum for kids. Her van and driving were excellent. Thank you.
We really found Elena to be very welcoming, and passionate about the information she was providing. She clearly has researched extensively. Presenting the material with the aid of photos and maps was very helpful especially for the teenagers. Including information about NZ was also appreciated. Thank you Elena for a wonderful tour.
Elena is very knowledgeable about the area. If you wish to have a tour that is specifically about Juno Beach and the contribution of Canada on the day of the landing and the days to follow, her tour is outstanding. She has family who lived in the area at the time and has personal anecdotes that enhance the value of the experience. You will not be disappointed.
*GRAYE SUR MER. We see the tank that have been transformed into poignant memorial. It is Winnipeg Rifles landing area. *JUNO BEACH CENTER. It was founded by a veteran who stormed the beaches on D-Day, offers an immersive experience that brings Canada's wartime experience to life. *BERNIERES SUR MER. We pay tribute to the brave soldiers of the Queen's Own Rifles who suffered the heaviest casualty. We also visit the German position WN28 and see the famous Canada House. *CANADIAN WAR CEMETERY. As you stand in front of the graves of young soldiers who gave their lives for our freedom, take a moment to honor their memory and reflect on their exceptional bravery.
