For most of people the war is just something they see in TV but Zadar and whole Croatia still remember Homeland War through which we had to struggle for democracy and freedom in the aftermath of communism fall in Eastern Europe. It is not that just suddenly happened overnight in 1991, the wars always have some deeper roots and hidden agendas. Even some locals can be biased and easily upset with wrongly phrased questions on the subject, so let me defuse the tensions and explain in detail what happened and answer all the sensitive questions you might have. As this was always frontier area between west and east, so we had quite turbulent history that we will revisit in order to reveal key points and details for more recent events. I was luckily too young and far enough from the first lines but I will share the accounts that I have learned from the news, documentaries, literature but also from the first-hand witnesses, family and friends. To support the story, I will take you to the locations of remembrance.
The tour starts in the port - either new on the periphery or the old in the old town - as port has always been the cradle of local life. - We will drive out to Dracevac hill - always 'a door' to Zadar where within few steps apart we find Venetian tower from 19th century, Italian bunkers from 1930s and an army tank from 1991. - After a visit to the neighbouring hill Kriz, we will drive through fertile fields to Skabrnja village - location where 48 civilian were killed in November 1991 - From Skabrnja we drive to village Kasic and then we return with different route towards Zadar. - In Zadar we visit another Italian bunker overlooking the city and then drive down to Puntamika neighbourhood. - We continue with a panoramic drive towards Zadar city center. Although today it is a tourism gem, the small, hardly visible scars still exist. The tour ends back in the port.

Depending on number of guests as well as your personal preferences, suitable vehicle will be hired by local transportation provider. In most cases the tour works better when having a professional driver who stays with the vehicle as while walking we might end up at the diifferent pick up area. There will be some walking as well.
