It is quite easy to miss or missunderstand some details whithin the city that has 3000 years of history. With a guide who is still excited in discovering new details from the city's past - joining every local history/archeology lecture I can, you will get up-to-date information. Step from the modern-day awsome monuments like Sea Organ (new version of the sirens from Greek stories) into the turbulent history that will send you on time-travel quest all the way to Roman Empire as you literally get to walk on the Forum's original pavement from Roman times. You may read how, why and by whome St. Siemeons sarcophagus was made but it is a first hand experience (I have family members and friends who were married in St. Simeons church) that will help you understand what it really means to us locals. We are likely to cut some corners and walk through some small streets; to understand a city. This is a must! So do it with somebody who is really passionate about Zadar!
Would you like to be on top of the world? Well, being on the city wall is not that high but it is still impressive so we will start the tour with - Venetian 16th century city walls and the main gate - we will than compare the gate to the ruins of the Roman gate - St Simeon lived to see Jesus Christ, and surely met some Romans too, so we will pass by his church - those Venetians liked showing off so we will see quite a few buildings from their times including some on Narodni trg (People's Square) - At gate to the new city and a city market we glimps the present life, as well on the main street 'Kalelarga' - Cathedral complex with the church witch is the symbol of the city and Roman ruins all blend together - Archaeological Museum holds amazing artefacts - to top it all, 21st century monuments - Sea Organ and Greeting to the Sun for some final words of wisdom. Let me know to adjust the itinerary if you have prefered time era or a subject for the visit, or if the transfer to the old town Zadar is needed.
