Overview of your Zadar tour

Zadar is the city where story goes back 2000 years into the past. A city where ancient meets modern on a relatively small peninsula. A city that has been destroyed and rebuilt several times throughout history, and a city where the line between friend and enemy was not always so clear: one easily became the other. This is the city that preserves ancient monuments, precious relics and modern architecture. A city where the sea plays the most beautiful music and the sun sets in the most beautifal way, according to A. Hitchkook. And my mission is to bring history to life, but also to show you the everyday life of the locals. As someone who was born and raised in this city and had all her ups and downs there, but also as an art historian, I will do my best to show you Zadar as I see it. And for me, this really is the most beautiful place in the world.

Luca was a truly expert and wonderful guide. Communicating with her was totally easy, and she was fantastic about recommending how we might customize our time in Zadar, based on our interests. We saw so much in a short period of time, and her enthusiasm for her city -- and Croatia in general -- made it all a very special day. Don't look any further if you are looking for someone to show you both the ancient and modern aspects of Zadar!

Exploring Zadar with Luca was an excellent way to experience the city’s incredible history and culture. From the start, her passion and knowledge as an art historian made the tour engaging, informative, and enjoyable. She shared fascinating stories about Zadar’s past, local legends, and everyday life that brought every stop to life. Luca was also extremely accommodating when we added a few extra friends to the tour at the last minute. She made everyone feel welcome and ensured the experience remained relaxed and personal. The tour included a wonderful mix of famous landmarks and hidden gems. Walking through People’s Square, the Roman Forum, and visiting St. Donatus Church, St. Simeon’s Church, and the Cathedral of St. Anastasia gave us a deep appreciation for the city’s rich history. Learning about the World War II bombings and the Venetian fortifications added even more perspective to the experience. We also loved visiting the Sea Organ and Greeting to the Sun, which blended modern art beautifully with the historic city atmosphere. Another highlight was enjoying local wines, cheeses, and the Maraschino tasting. Overall, this was a fantastic and well-paced tour. Luca’s knowledge, enthusiasm, and flexibility made it a truly memorable experience that we highly recommend.

We’ve taken many guided tours through ToursByLocals, and Luca was truly one of the best guides we’ve ever had! From start to finish, she delivered the perfect blend of history, culture, and art—informative without ever feeling rushed or overwhelming. In just four hours, we saw all of Old Town Zadar, exactly as promised. We visited several historical churches, enjoyed a relaxing mid-morning break with local food and drink, and even made time for a quick stop to purchase the local liquor at our request. Luca’s pacing was flawless, and her knowledge was matched only by her warmth. She made us feel like we were walking through her hometown with a good friend. We can’t recommend Luca or this tour of Zadar highly enough!

Luca was an amazing tour guide. She was very personable, on time, communicated very well prior and during our tour and was very knowledgeable. The tour covered everything from history, architecture, current life, culture and more to answering all of our questions. We loved stopping to sample local cheeses, liquor and wine. Her English is impeccable. We HIGHLY recommend her!

Luca is an extremely knowledgeable, personable and enthusiastic guide. We spent hours with her and learned so much about Zadar, the surrounding regions, and the 1991 wars. She was timely, well organized and very responsive to our requests. Her knowledge of history and the arts helped make our trip particularly enjoyable. I would request her again if we come back to Zadar.

Fantastic tour with a fantastic guide. Her education as an art historian was much appreciated as she provided so much fascinating information about the places we visited. The visit to the vineyard, and our time to chat, was much appreciated too. I highly recommend Luca.
