There are some places where as soon as you enter, you enter another dimension!! Such a place is Maškovića han in Vrana. In 1644, it was built by Jusuf Mašković, a high official at the Turkish court in Constantinople and admiral of the Turkish fleet. His life ended tragically when the sultan had his head beheaded two years later and he never got around to finishing it. Maškovića Han is the western most monument of Turkish secular architecture in Europe. It was created on the territory of the Ottoman Empire, a few kilometers away from the border with the Republic of Venice, which ran along today's Adriatic Highway, on the border between "East" and "West", in the area of meeting and conflict between two civilizations. I suggest that we take a coffee break there and try the traditional baklava, as well as some other desserts in the restaurant's offer. Near are remains of the old town Vrana close to Vrana Lake, the biggest nature lake in Croatia, which is the part of Nature Park where we will take a walk.
Embark on a journey from Zadar to Nature Park Vrana Lake, enjoying a relaxing drive along the peaceful shores. Spot over 100,000 wintering birds in this natural paradise, perfect for nature lovers and birdwatchers. Next, visit the stunning Kamenjak viewpoint with panoramic views of Lake Vrana, the Adriatic Sea, and nearby towns. We’ll toast with a tasting of homemade local liqueur, celebrating the region’s beauty. Our final stop is the historic Maškovića Han, an Ottoman heritage site. Enjoy a break with traditional Turkish coffee and sweet baklava in the cozy restaurant. Nearby are the ruins of medieval Vrana, a fortress full of fascinating stories — a perfect way to end the day. Optional traditional lunch with local specialties can be arranged (not included, advance booking required). Book now to explore Croatia’s hidden gems in one unforgettable day!
