I'm an ex-pat American, a permanent resident of Croatia, and have lived in Split for 15 years. I created and published DiscoverSplit, the city's only free, English language annual newspaper for tourists which you can see online along with the Tourist Board of Split's newest publication, The Split Guide; DiscoverSplit's Restaurant Guide and the Split/Dalmatia Travel Guide. All of these are supported and approved by the Tourist Board of Split, whom I work with as a consultant. I also created the first and only walking map of all the streets and alleys within the actual Palace of Diocletian--which is part of the newspaper. Together with friends who own wineries, restaurants, honey farms and the best professional guides, I have created a suite of intriguing private tours that take you off-the-beaten-track to see places most tourists never see; meet locals; stop by for some amazing cinnamon buns and ice cream; the last remaining filigree silversmith in Split; maybe an iconic local artist if you'd like and even more. When you walk with me, you not only get the in-depth local expertise of a talented, local professional guide, but the nuance, humor and insight of someone who lives here, loves it and has been working with tourists and tour programming in the US as well as in Russia (where I lived and worked for many years)--TWO of us on every tour!. If there's something you would like to do a bit differently than what we have in our programs, just ask. The answer is usually yes! I look forward to meeting you sharing with you this really special part of the world! Do take a look at some of my wonderful reviews from travelers and agents who had a great time here! An oh yes, if there are just two or three of you and you book any program outside of Split, you get to ride in my well-maintained 1994 Mercedes C 250! Publisher of the 128 page Split-Central Dalmatia Travel Guide to Activities, Events and Destinations; The Split Guide; the Split Restaurant Guide (both supported by the Tourist Board of Split and Dalmatia county); DiscoverSplit, DiscoverHvar, DiscoverSolta and DiscoverKorcula--the only English language newspapers for tourists in these communities. Consultant to the Tourist Board of Split, English language editor of the official tourist board publication Visit Split. All programs are led by a registered, local, professional guide, who I accompany since only citizens can be licensed. So you get to see the wonders of Dalmatia through the eyes of an ex-pat American living here for over a decade and great friends of mine who are local, professional guides!

Overview of your Split tour

Trogir, just a 30 minute drive up the coast, is on its own tiny island connected to the mainland and the island of Ciovo by two tiny bridges. Founded by the Greeks in the 4thC BC, Tragurion grew to become an astonishingly wealthy and important town. Its ensemble of 13-17thC public and private buildings is so remarkable that UNESCO has included it on its list of World Heritage sites. The Cathedral of St. Lawrence, its crown jewel is an astonishing edifice dating back to 1240. Beyond brave its portal, magical interior and overall power and mystery is an indelible experience regardless of your religion. The ancient winding back streets and sumptuous noble residences rival Dubrovnik. Then it's off to the birthplace of Zinfandel, 400 meters above the sea enjoying a spectacular view as we enjoy three different wines and a 3 course gourmet meal with dessert at a fabulous boutique winery A glorious day of true authentic experiences.

Robert gave us a wonderful walking tour of both Split and Trogir with transportation between. His guiding through the old town streets was detailed and specific. He knows the history of the old towns and can layer what happened when on the stones. The cathedral in Trogir is spectacular, especially for a small town. Split mausoleum was also a a true highlight, enhanced by an organist practicing while we were inside. We stopped for a lunch in Split that was fun: Mexican-Croatian. And, we tried the local rafioli pastry in Trogir. I highly recommend Robert. He is knowledgeable and loves to share his discoveries with his guests. Great day!

We truly enjoyed Robert's private tour of Trogir and appreciated his flexibility when one of our members showed up with a walker. Robert created room in his trunk for the walker and adjusted his tour of Trogir to accommodate my friend's slower mobility as we walked through town. I truly appreciated Robert's perspective and interpretation of the artwork on the buildings which gave me a richer understanding of the scenes. We finished the tour with a wonderful gourmet lunch and wine tasting at a nearby winery set on the hillside with an amazing view of the coastline. The lunch was truly a gourmet meal where the presentation and flavors were equally amazing with the wine pairings! I would like to add that Robert was an exceptional host! He also worked with the winery to take us early to get us back to our cruise ship on time! I highly recommend reserving Robert for your tour!!

An amazing day touring Trogir, then a 325-year-old winery set in the hills above Split, with Robert. Robert's knowledge and his passion for this UNESCO site is unmatched. The importance of Trogir for trade, the Ćipiko brothers' vision, and St. Lawrence's Cathedral craftsmanship came to life thought Robert's expert guidance. Then the wine. After Trogir we spent a wonder afternoon sampling wines, talking about life and enjoying sweeping views of Split. Hanging with Robert was a blast. Enjoyed this tour!
