*** I'm a private guide in SPLIT, at the AMAZING RIVER CETINA CANYON, in UNESCO TOWN TROGIR, at NATIONAL PARK KRKA FALLS, on FAMOUS ISLAND HVAR, at BEAUTIFUL ISLAND BRAC, in town SIBENIK, at PLITVICE FALLS NATIONAL PARK, on BLUE CAVE tour (from Hvar), in town MOSTAR and on WINE TOURS All of my 20 private tours can be found further below. Please note, ONLY 6 TOURS ARE DISPLAYED AT ONCE, SO YOU NEED TO PRESS THE BUTTON 'SEE MORE', UNDER THE LAST / LOWEST TOUR LISTED *** Dobrodošli! / Hi and welcome! I am glad you decided to visit one of the most beautiful and diverse countries in the world, the country called The pearl of 1000 islands (we have 1244 of them, really!), or 'the Mediterranean as it once was'! My name is Matt and I come from the south of Croatia, the region of incredible beauty called Dalmatia (yeah, those cute, black-spotted dogs come from here, too!). I originate from island Hvar and live in the capital of Dalmatia - 1700 y/o UNESCO city Split. I love history, Arts and nature, and I enjoy sharing the beauty of my region with my guests. My biggest passions are traveling and exploring new cultures, customs and people (I consider myself lucky being able to visit more than 70 countries so far), gastronomy and wines, foreign languages, photography, literature, architecture, geography, international politics and stock markets. I love taking part in pub quizzes / trivia nights and also I am a big fan of outdoor activities: biking, hiking, sailing, kayaking. At age 18, at my first year of university, I became a licensed tour guide, and that is when my professional career in tourism and travel started. In my rich tour guide's career I have been guiding and organizing tours and customized and tailor-made itineraries for individuals and groups all around Croatia, Slovenia, Montenegro, Bosnia and 25 other European countries. I have been working with the main tour operators from Croatia, US, UK and Australia. One of those was Rick Steves: at the very beginning of Rick's arrival in Croatia, I personally guided him and several of his first tour groups. Some of the specific Croatian sayings included in his Croatia guidebook were learned directly from me :) I have also been organizing congresses, business meetings, conferences and team buildings in Split and other beautiful locations in Croatia. In 2010, as one of the first European guides (and the very first in Croatia!), I joined the ToursByLocals team. Today, with over 450 tours delivered, I’m proud to be by far the most booked ToursByLocals guide in the entire region. . . . For my guests in Croatia, I will be glad to organize and guide the whole variety of tours (half-day, one-day, 1-week; national park tours, cultural tours, wine tours. . . ) around Dalmatia and Croatia, in general. So. . . maybe you would like a morning walking tour of the historical 1700 y/o UNESCO city of Split (discovering its complex history and also seeing some of the GOT filming locations) and then enjoy a Dalmatian lunch in some of the typical 'konoba' restaurants afterwards, followed by a visit to the 3-millennia old UNESCO town Trogir - just a 30 minute drive from Split? Or maybe you are into the Jewish-history tour of Split? Or you are a nature lover who prefers pacing by hundreds of waterfalls of UNESCO National park Plitvice, or by those of National park Krka, or at the beautiful river Cetina canyon, a half an hour drive from Split. . . Would you like to swim in the most transparent sea in Europe? Maybe you wish to enjoy a private speedboat tour, or a driver-guided tour of my island - one of the world's 10 most beautiful islands and the best wine region in Croatia - island Hvar - or visit island Brac, the source of the best limestone in Europe, the island with the most attractive beach in Croatia - the Golden Horn/ Zlatni Rat. Or maybe visit the breathtaking island Vis (the filming location of the Mamma Mia 2, in 2017) and its famous Blue cave. . . Or to experience the oriental charm of the 'Small Istanbul' - town Mostar (Bosnia and Hercegovina) and its medieval, UNESCO bridge? Or, would you like to see one of the best known symbols of Croatia - town Dubrovnik - and its wider region - the incredible wine region of the peninsula Peljesac, beautiful island Korcula or the neighboring country - Montenegro? Whatever your requests are, feel free to contact me and I will organize the tour that suits your plans the best! I provide private walking tours, driver-guided tours, multi-day tours, wine tours, private yacht / speedboat charter tours, customized team buildings, congresses and conferences, as well as the road transfers between Croatia and its neighborhood: Slovenia, Italy, Hungary, Bosnia, Montenegro. . . I am looking forward to being your private guide and to sharing with you my favorite places in Split, Croatia, on the islands and more. . .

Overview of your Split tour

This is one of the most unique tours / shore excursions and one of my favorites tours. One rarely gets to experience the tranquility and beauty of a crystal clear river- only a few minutes drive from the ocean - and only a 30-min drive from a big city (Split). After the driver-guided tour of Cetina canyon and beautiful mountain viewpoints we are visiting estuary/canyon town Omis and its fort. As the Omis walk would finish, you can enjoy a great lunch in a fantastic river restaurant (optional) and have an amazing canyon boat ride (optional, too). And then, we are going back to my hometown - back to Split - where we will tour together the old UNESCO town and emperor Diocletian's palace. We will walk through the palace fortifications and gates, see the historical square Peristyle, visit medieval Jewish ghetto, admire Split's seafront - Riva - and see the oldest cathedral building in the world! You will also learn why we call Split "The sportiest city in the world".

Matej was an incredible guide! Our half-day trip to Split, Omiš, and the Cetina River canyon was fantastic. Matej was remarkably knowledgeable, engaging, and eager to share local history and insights that you’d never find in a standard guidebook. The driver-guided format made everything effortless and relaxed. If you want a perfectly organized, personalized, and memorable Croatian tour, book with Matej! Highly recommend him to anyone looking for an authentic and personalized excursion!

Our first day with Matej was absolutely unforgettable. From the moment we me him, his warmth, enthusiasm and deep love for Dalmatian set the tone for a perfect experience. Despite the Bura wind, we saw breathtaking views and learned details of Omis we never would have recognized on our own. He also brought the old town of Split to life with stories and history We appreciated how well organized everything was from timing to transportation and we never felt rushed. If you’re visiting Split, don’t miss a tour with Matej. It’s the perfect mix of adventure, culture, history and fun.

Really nice and knowledgeable guide created a very enjoyable day in Split. Some sightseeing and scenic points, a beautiful boat tour in a river winding through a canyon surrounded by mountains, a lunch on the river, and walking tour through old town Split. Everything was very well done. Only drawback was the car he used was too small to comfortably fit 4 medium sized adults (there was an option to upgrade the vehicle but we didn’t realize how much time we’d spend in the car). Overall, highly recommend “Matt” and this tour!!!

Matt was terrific. We had him for two days and it was absolutely wonderful. He took us and showed us your wonderful country in two different places so it was absolutely nice to have him. We felt comfortable with them. He knew what we wanted to see, and he was very warm and friendly he picked us up in, both places on time he showed us what we wanted to see he was very accommodating. He knew he did not want to see what the buses showed people. We saw things that nobody else have seen in this wonderful country. We went up the mountain we saw views that nobody else seen, and we were so pleased with him. He was friendly and accommodating, and we couldn’t have asked for a nicer couple of days

Matt showed us beautiful sites in and outside Split that we would not see on a typical tour. We saw magnificent views, ate lunch at a charming restaurant on the river and he shared history and culture that gave us a better understanding of Spit and it's people. I highly recommend Matt and would love to come back and spend time with him again.

Your Split tour itinerary

All of my tours are completely flexible - the clients are the ones who would decide about the pace, the preferred sights to visit, about the breaks, photo stops, etc. This is a suggested itinerary: -Meeting in Split at the cruise ship dock / hotel -30 min drive to the river Cetina canyon -admiring the canyon from the mountain viewpoints -seeing interesting historical sights (coronation church, old forts) -car ride through the canyon (or, if you have enough time, having an optional boat ride starting from the river estuary - cost is 70 Euro total, for your private boat) -optional lunch at a wonderful river restaurant (extra cost) -we can have a short walk through the river-estuary town Omis and climb its fort Mirabela (if you are coming by a cruise ship leaving early, there might be not enough time for this) -30 min drive back to Split along the coast -tour of UNESCO town Split/Diocletian Palace -walk back to the ship / hotel
