Welcome to Split, Dalmatia! I hope that, as your hostess, I will make your visit to Dalmatia as...
Itinerary not perfect? Message Nives F. to build a tour that’s just right for you.
The tour will introduce you to 1700 years of history of Split and help you to grasp how an imperial Roman residence became a medieval town and then developed into a modern bustling city which is today. There are a very few places in the world where so many different historical layers are interwoven into the fabric of everyday life. The Old Town is like a maze of narrow alleys where Roman and medieval structures are all crammed together, so during the tour you will really feel how the town's long and complex history unveils right in front of your eyes. But it's not a museum as you will constantly rub shoulders with the locals who make their way to the local farmers' market, fervently discuss politics or football in the street or just idly sip their espresso on the waterfront. Strolling down the cobbled streets, you will witness how every nook and cranny of the Old Town has been repurposed to accommodate the needs of the locals which makes it so lively and vibrant. Let me introduce you to its unique vibe!
This is a 3h walking tour, but it can be customized to your needs, interests, activity level and time that you have at your disposal. Here you will find a general overview of the tour which starts in a chronological order, namely with the Diocletian's Palace: - Substructure of the Palace (gives you an insight into how the palace was built) - Mausoleum of the Emperor, now the Cathedral - Temple of Jupiter - main Roman square Peristyle Then we will explore the rest of the medieval and modern town which is nested within the original Roman palace: - Golden Gate with the Statue of Gregory of Nin - Jewish Ghetto - Pjaca square - Fruit square The tour can be extended if you want to enjoy a beautiful panoramic view of Split from the Marjan hill, visit the Jewish cemetery and the synagogue. We can always make a pit stop in numerous coffee shops or snack bars should you need a break. Coffee culture is very strong in Croatia and in me you will find its true representative with taste for specialty coffee.

This is a walking tour. The entire Old Town of Split is a pedestrianized zone. It is advisable to wear non-slip comfortable walking shoes as all the streets are cobbled, so they are slippery especially in wet weather. As for the cruise ship passengers, I can arrange an air-conditioned vehicle car or a bike rickshaw to pick you up and transfer close to the Old Town for extra charge. However, it is more advisable to walk as the port is just a 10-minute walk from the Old Town.
