*** I'm a private guide in SPLIT, at the AMAZING RIVER CETINA CANYON, in UNESCO TOWN TROGIR, at NATIONAL PARK KRKA FALLS, on FAMOUS ISLAND HVAR, at BEAUTIFUL ISLAND BRAC, in town SIBENIK, at PLITVICE FALLS NATIONAL PARK, on BLUE CAVE tour (from Hvar), in town MOSTAR and on WINE TOURS All of my 20 private tours can be found further below. Please note, ONLY 6 TOURS ARE DISPLAYED AT ONCE, SO YOU NEED TO PRESS THE BUTTON 'SEE MORE', UNDER THE LAST / LOWEST TOUR LISTED *** Dobrodošli! / Hi and welcome! I am glad you decided to visit one of the most beautiful and diverse countries in the world, the country called The pearl of 1000 islands (we have 1244 of them, really!), or 'the Mediterranean as it once was'! My name is Matt and I come from the south of Croatia, the region of incredible beauty called Dalmatia (yeah, those cute, black-spotted dogs come from here, too!). I originate from island Hvar and live in the capital of Dalmatia - 1700 y/o UNESCO city Split. I love history, Arts and nature, and I enjoy sharing the beauty of my region with my guests. My biggest passions are traveling and exploring new cultures, customs and people (I consider myself lucky being able to visit more than 70 countries so far), gastronomy and wines, foreign languages, photography, literature, architecture, geography, international politics and stock markets. I love taking part in pub quizzes / trivia nights and also I am a big fan of outdoor activities: biking, hiking, sailing, kayaking. At age 18, at my first year of university, I became a licensed tour guide, and that is when my professional career in tourism and travel started. In my rich tour guide's career I have been guiding and organizing tours and customized and tailor-made itineraries for individuals and groups all around Croatia, Slovenia, Montenegro, Bosnia and 25 other European countries. I have been working with the main tour operators from Croatia, US, UK and Australia. One of those was Rick Steves: at the very beginning of Rick's arrival in Croatia, I personally guided him and several of his first tour groups. Some of the specific Croatian sayings included in his Croatia guidebook were learned directly from me :) I have also been organizing congresses, business meetings, conferences and team buildings in Split and other beautiful locations in Croatia. In 2010, as one of the first European guides (and the very first in Croatia!), I joined the ToursByLocals team. Today, with over 450 tours delivered, I’m proud to be by far the most booked ToursByLocals guide in the entire region. . . . For my guests in Croatia, I will be glad to organize and guide the whole variety of tours (half-day, one-day, 1-week; national park tours, cultural tours, wine tours. . . ) around Dalmatia and Croatia, in general. So. . . maybe you would like a morning walking tour of the historical 1700 y/o UNESCO city of Split (discovering its complex history and also seeing some of the GOT filming locations) and then enjoy a Dalmatian lunch in some of the typical 'konoba' restaurants afterwards, followed by a visit to the 3-millennia old UNESCO town Trogir - just a 30 minute drive from Split? Or maybe you are into the Jewish-history tour of Split? Or you are a nature lover who prefers pacing by hundreds of waterfalls of UNESCO National park Plitvice, or by those of National park Krka, or at the beautiful river Cetina canyon, a half an hour drive from Split. . . Would you like to swim in the most transparent sea in Europe? Maybe you wish to enjoy a private speedboat tour, or a driver-guided tour of my island - one of the world's 10 most beautiful islands and the best wine region in Croatia - island Hvar - or visit island Brac, the source of the best limestone in Europe, the island with the most attractive beach in Croatia - the Golden Horn/ Zlatni Rat. Or maybe visit the breathtaking island Vis (the filming location of the Mamma Mia 2, in 2017) and its famous Blue cave. . . Or to experience the oriental charm of the 'Small Istanbul' - town Mostar (Bosnia and Hercegovina) and its medieval, UNESCO bridge? Or, would you like to see one of the best known symbols of Croatia - town Dubrovnik - and its wider region - the incredible wine region of the peninsula Peljesac, beautiful island Korcula or the neighboring country - Montenegro? Whatever your requests are, feel free to contact me and I will organize the tour that suits your plans the best! I provide private walking tours, driver-guided tours, multi-day tours, wine tours, private yacht / speedboat charter tours, customized team buildings, congresses and conferences, as well as the road transfers between Croatia and its neighborhood: Slovenia, Italy, Hungary, Bosnia, Montenegro. . . I am looking forward to being your private guide and to sharing with you my favorite places in Split, Croatia, on the islands and more. . .

Overview of your Split tour

Hi. I'm Matt and I wish to welcome you to island Hvar! Hvar is the most famous Croatian island. Even though I live in Split, Hvar is one of the most special places in the world for me, as I have my family roots in Hvar (since the 15th century!). So, if you would choose me as your guide, rest assured that your tour would be delivered with lots of local knowledge, love & passion for my island :) Condé Nast Traveler, one of the leading travel magazines, declared Hvar as one of 10 world's most beautiful islands, together with Santorini, Bora Bora, Capri, Zanzibar… Hvar is famous for many things: its cultural heritage (and its UNESCO sites!), lovely renaissance towns with their palaces & castles, unspoiled nature - forests and mountains dotted with old villages and for its breathtaking lavender & rosemary fields. It also boasts with the most transparent sea on the Mediterranean, with incredibly indented coast, with wonderful beaches and, not to forget, the excellent restaurants & world famous wine(rie)s.

Matt is a great host and guide. He was extremely helpful before arrival, his communication and replies to me were always prompt. We are 14 friends, all traveling together, with different interests and different personalities. Matt’s suggestions made us all happy. For many it was his knowledge of plants and herbs, for others the ancient history of the island, for others WWII and for others shopping! He took everything into consideration and handled the group very well. I would recommend Matt to anyone looking for a good guide on Hvar!

Our family of 4 adults had a terrific time with Matt showing us around the Hvar Island. We had amazing views, stopped at a fantastic winery for a tasting and a local lunch as well. Enjoyed our day and would highly recommend!

Excellent. Overwhelming. Beautiful. Matt showed us beautiful Hvar. We traveled by car from one end to the other. We learned some of the history. We drove through the countryside. Matt took us to small villages. Lavender fields. Herbs. Waterfront. We could not have asked for more. I highly recommend Matt. His knowledge is remarkable.

Breathtaking is an understatement. This island was amazing and what better way to see it than with a local - Matt did an excellent job sharing his beautiful island with us. Lavender fields, stone walls and shelters, agave lace, gorgeous towns and views and fantastic wineries. We learned so much from Matt and would book him again in a heartbeat (in fact we booked several days with him and are so happy we did!). He is smart, kind and detail oriented - he gave us the trip of a lifetime touring Croatia.

If you want to see Hvar off the beaten path I highly recommend this tour! Matt showed us parts of Hvar we never would've seen on our own, and was full of historical and just fun facts. He was super responsive, provided detailed instructions on getting to Hvar and back, and brought us to a great local restaurant for lunch.

Your Split tour itinerary

*Please note, our itinerary is completely flexible - you are the one who would decide about pacing and the day flow: -meeting you at the dock of your ferry/catamaran from Split (or at cruiser dock, OR at your Hvar hotel) -touring the renaissance town Hvar -driving uphill and admiring spectacular views at the surrounding islands and mountains from the Fortica fortress -riding along the fjord of Vrboska and visiting town Vrboska (Small Venice), with its old bridges and canals -visiting 3 millennia old Greek town Stari Grad and 2400 year old UNESCO protected Greek fields & stone walls -mountain road & old villages, surrounded by lavender hills, with numerous photo stops -optional lunch break at some of the best local restaurants (extra cost) -visiting beautiful captains' town Jelsa . . . and, also, Hvar is the place where some of the best red wines in Europe are grown and produced. Therefore, if you are a wine lover, we can add wineries visit and wine tastings as well (at extra cost).
