The nice blossomed Mediterranean Flower", "The City of Emperor" and "The White pearl" are just some of the attributes which describe the largest Croatian city on the Adriatic sea - Split. With more than 1700 years, it's one of the oldest cities in Croatia. Known primarily due to its palace - Diocletian's Palace (UNESCO site), but also for many other beauties, things and happening, whether cultural, social or sporting events. It is no coincidence that the Roman Emperor Diocletian built his palace at the foot of Marjan hill, near his hometown - Salona, where he retired and lived for the rest of his long life. The natural beauty of the surrounding mountains, the nearby islands, the drinking water from the rivers, and the crystal-clear sea, influenced the choice of this exceptional peninsula, known today as the city of Split.
