Welcome to Split, Dalmatia! I hope that, as your hostess, I will make your visit to Dalmatia as memorable and exciting as possible. My name is Nives and I have been a tour guide for more than 20 years. With a Bachelor's degree in Classical Studies and Master's Degree in Modern Greek Language, my academic interests lie primarily in history, archaeology and history of art. So my incessant curiosity propelled me to travel extensively all over the world, both in professional capacity and as a travel enthusiast keen to acquire in-depth knowledge of the local culture. But my heart is set on the Mediterranean basin, so I feel privileged to be a licensed guide for the region of Central Dalmatia which epitomizes the very essence of the Mediterranean culture. Thus I can share my passion for the local historic and cultural heritage, enthusiasm for the local laid-back rhythm of life and addiction to the local edible and potable delicacies. Namely, no visit to any place is complete without indulging in traditional cuisine and imbibing local wines. As a foodie and wine enthusiast myself, I particularly enjoy doing food and wine tours around the Dalmatian region which has finally come on the radar of international wine connoisseurs and winemakers. I have even provided the tours for professionals in the field such as winemakers from Oregon, State of Washington and especially California, including the Zinfandel Advocates and Producers. I also have extensive experience in translating and interpreting practice from both English and Modern Greek to Croatian. In this capacity I worked for the Press Office of the Greek Embassy in Zagreb and also for the President of the Republic of Croatia. Furthermore, I have contributed to a number of projects in the fields of culture and publishing. All the tours I provide can be adjusted to your needs and interests. I really do feel as an ambassador to my country, so I would love you to leave my country with the best of memories and with a strong desire to come back again. Dalmatia is such a rich and complex region in every single aspect, so let me accompany you in untangling its many mysteries! -Bachelor's degree in Classical Studies, University of Zagreb, 1997 -Master's Degree in Modern Greek Language, University of Patras, 1999 -Degree in Tourist Destination Management, University of Management and Design Aspira, Split, 2014 -Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (CAE), 2001 -Licensed tour guide for Split-Dalmatia County, 2013 -Licensed tour guide for Sibenik-Knin County, 2015 -Roman Architecture, Yale University, 2020 (online non-credit course offered through Coursera) -Over 20 years of experience in tourism industry I am a licensed guide and have no restrictions.

The Old Town of Split fascinates as it grew out of a former palace of the Roman Emperor Diocletian which is still to a great degree residential. The ancient palace is the backdrop for numerous bars, pavement cafes, boutiques and artisan shops, lively farmers' and fish markets, but also a playground for local kids whom you can see playing ball amidst the ancient ruins. This is what makes this UNESCO site so special as it is the only Roman imperial palace preserved that is still inhabited. Trogir is a picturesque pocket-sized town situated on a small island that with its monuments and buildings encapsulates its medieval glorious past. A walk through the town's maze of narrow cobbled alleys packed with centuries old mansions and churches ends up on the sun-drenched waterfront where you can mingle with the easy-going locals as they savor the moment and enjoy their drinks and small talk. Immerse yourself in the local laid back atmosphere where modern lifestyle has given way to the pace of the times long gone!
This is a full day tour which first starts with exploring the Old Town of Split. However, it can be customized to your needs, interests, activity level and time that you have at your disposal. - Diocletian's Palace with its Substructure - Mausoleum of the Roman Emperor, now the Cathedral - Temple of Jupiter - Peristyle - medieval and renaissance maze of the Old Town with the Jewish Ghetto - Pjaca square The tour continues with a half an hour ride to Trogir. We will explore the town on foot as it is also fully pedestrianized. All the most important sights are concentrated around the Central Square. - Cathedral of St Lawrence - Town Hall and Town Loggia - Clock Tower - through the South Gate to the waterfront and the Kamerlengo Castle Return to Split after Trogir (another half an hour drive). As it is a longer tour, a coffee/lunch break can be taken at any point of the tour. As a foodie, I can always suggest only the top places that offer local, good quality food.

Air-conditioned vehicle or minivan. A minibus can be arranged for a larger group. As for the tours of both towns, the sightseeing can only be done on foot. It is advisable to wear non-slip comfortable walking shoes as all the streets are cobbled, so they are slippery especially in wet weather.
