Hello, my name is Vjeran ("faithful" in Croatian) and it would be my pleasure to be your host in this part of Croatia where I live and which I'm in love with. I am a private guide that offers private tours in Split and the surrounding area. I have worked as a licensed tourist guide for the Split region for fourteen years, but I've been involved in tourism since I was 14 (I am 44 now). After graduating from high school, with an emphasis on tourism, I obtained my undergraduate degree in tourism. I've been working at the Split tourist office ever since. My goal is not to give you just a tour. I would like to give you a memory. This region is, I daresay, one of the best there is when it comes to opportunities to see so many breathtaking places not far from each other. For example - the amazing palace built by the Roman emperor Diocletian, which has grown into the city of Split. Then, one of the most beautiful small towns in the world - Trogir. It is almost impossible to find a place of that size with so many monuments. Just minutes away from Split you will find the key to our history and Christianity - the ruins of what was once the glorious Roman capital of the province, Salona. From there you literally see another wonder - the fortress of Klis - where so much blood was shed in order to stop a fierce enemy, the Turkish army, trying to put to an and Europe as it was then. Heroes were made then, and heroes are being made now, with the fourth and the fifth season of the globally popular TV-series "Game of Thrones" which has been filmed in this area. There is so much more: natural wonders like Plitvice Lakes, The Krka Waterfalls and others. Islands like Hvar and Brač will capture your heart. You have just one day… No problem! Only half a day… Still no problem! Not more than a couple of hours… My answer remains the same - No problem! Tailor-made tours are what I'm all about. And my tours are designed to meet your needs and wishes. You tell me what you would like, and I'll do my best to make it happen. I do believe there are many people out there watching and loving "Game of Thrones". If you're one of them check out my tour - Split Game of Thrones tour. Why would you pick me? "There are no men like me. Only me. " P. S. Don't get me wrong, I don't think too highly of myself. I'd just like to think I'm at least a bit unique. -Licensed tourist guide for Split-Dalmatia county (Split, Trogir, Salona, Klis, Omiš, islands Brač, Hvar etc.) and Šibenik-Knin County (Šibenik, Krka Waterfalls) -Driver's Licence (car, van) No restrictions

Overview of your Split tour

East of Split lies an area once known as Poljička republika (The Republic of Poljica). It stretches all the way to the gorgeous town of Omiš, situated at the mouth of the Cetina river. Believe it or not, this republic was independent from the thirteenth century until the occupation by Napoleon's army, at the beginning of the nineteenth century. It's organization, regulations, fairness of rulers, together with spectacular beauty of the surrounding nature (mountains, fields, the river, the canyon…), made this place a world of its own. Here is an interesting fact: in 1960 a Russian scientist M. P. Aleksejev claimed that Thomas Moore had written "Utopia" (published in 1516) based on the traditions and customs of the Republic of Poljica, which he saw as an ideal model of fair and free society. P. S. If you book this tour, don't forget to bring an extra memory card for your camera, because the landscape you are going to see will blow you away.

This tour was really fun. We got to see a part of the area around Split that most people never get to see. If you want to see some different countryside and have a great tour guide, take this tour. After touring with this guide, I would definately go on any tours that he has. He is the best.

VJ was an absolutely wonderful guide. Not only extremely knowledgeable but funny and enjoyable the entire time. He gave us an insight to what life would have been like in the hinterland, the history, the culture, the food…it was a great tour!

I wish I could give Vjeran a 10 star rating. Truly, he was no less than phenomenal. He is so engaging, knowledgeable and kind. I have sung his praise to so many people. We had a great day touring with him and then he offered to translate for my husband when he met his elderly cousin for the first time. He went so far above and beyond. Tours By Locals is a fantastic consortia, but even more so with quality guides like Vjeran. Thank you so much for a great beginning to our trip to Croatia!!

Such a beautiful part of the world. VJ knew and showed us all the best views. So many photos and happy memories. The visit to the old water mill was in a lovely, peaceful setting where we sat and enjoyed a glass of wine and we were lucky enough to see the mill working. This guide comes highly recommended

Your Split tour itinerary

- After we meet, we'll head for our „off the beaten path experience" - I will show you a part of this region most visitors never get to see; so close to Split but, yet, so unknown. We'll start from Split and travel south - using a road through the hinterland. - It will be a combination of driving and walking; you'll see a bit of life in rural areas and hear some very interesting stories about the past and traditions there. - We'll also stop at, what I think is, the best place in the whole region to take photos from - If you feel like doing so, there is an optional „coffee stop" point, next to the gorgeous Cetina river (this place is not as hidden but is still very beautiful) - On our way back to Split, we'll use the coastal road, so you'll be able to see the different side of the same region * The suggested itinerary can be altered before booking and even while on tour to fit your expectations.
