Hello! My name is Lea, Split is my hometown and I'm a licensed tour guide for Split, Dubrovnik and Šibenik county, in English, French and Spanish language. I was born in Split, I have been living here for more than 20 years and I'm passionate about sharing its beauty and culture! I got my Master's degree in Marketing, at the Faculty of Economics here in Split. Following my university studies, I moved to Barcelona to do an internship before returning back to Split. I have always enjoyed learning languages, travelling and experiencing different cultures. Soon after graduation I realised that an office job doesn't suit me and I started to work as a tour guide, which was the best decision I have ever made! When I'm not tour guiding, I love to learn languages - I can speak English, Spanish, Portuguese and French. Yoga is also one of my passions, I am a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT 200) by International Yoga Alliance. Local gastronomy has always interested me, so I decided to do a course for a wine consultant to get to know more about the rich wine history in Croatia. In my free time, I love long walks with my dog and reading books. I absolutely love my job and cannot wait to share with you all the beauties that the city of Split and the region of Dalmatia have to offer! If you were looking for a private guide to experience the region like a true local - you are right where you should be! * University degree in Marketing issued by University of Split, Croatia * Licensed tourist guide for Split-Dalmatia County * Licensed tourist guide for Dubrovnik-Neretva County * Licensed tourist guide for Sibenik-Knin County * Spanish C1 - degree issued by Kingsbrook Idiomas language school in Barcelona * Certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language - issued by Cambridge TEFL * French language certificate - B2 * Certified Yoga Teacher by International Yoga Alliance * Certificate for the completion of a course for Wine consultant I am not a driver. I do have a driving license, but I prefer not to drive and guide at the same time. I can accompany you in your vehicle or I can arrange for a separate car and driver.

Overview of your Split tour

During this tour I will tell you why the Jewish community in Split enjoyed a special status and why Split would not be the same without it! For a relatively small city with a dominantly catholic tradition, Jewish heritage in Split makes an incredibly important part of history. They had a considerable influence on the local economy - they built a free port and opened the first bookshops. The Jewish community of Split is one of the oldest in Europe. The archaeological excavation from the nearby Roman Salona prove that the Jews had lived there with the Romans before moving to Split. Those Jews were known as the Romaniote Jews. In two millennia of its existence, the Jewish community in Split faced many challenges, including the toughest: World War II. Join me on this tour and discover the third oldest Synagogue in Europe, admire one of the oldest and most beautiful Jewish cemeteries. I will share with you about many accomplishments of Jewish community members in Split!

Lea gave us a fantastic tour of Split. Not only is she flexible but will cater to her clients. She has exceptional knowledge of the Old City but is also fluent in English. We would recommend to anyone coming to Split to book with Lea. We also included a Jewish heritage tour which was a memory we will not forge.

What a terrific tour! We decided to bypass the ship’s tour to have a tailored-for-us Jewish tour. We got that but so so much more. True insight into the history, culture, peoples of Croatia from early times to the current day. This wasn’t dry history, it was fascinating insight into this land and its people. Leah, our guide, told the history and experience of Croatians as the best nonfiction story you could imagine.

Lea gave a fun, energetic, uplifting, and interesting tour explaining behind the scenes of the palace and how daily life might of been for the Jewish community. She moved us along (all adult children in our family) vs a stationary, boring lecture as some guides do. We requested to skip the cemetery portion and focus more on the palace and synagogue (which is very small and hidden away). Thank you Lea!

We had a great day exploring the Jewish side of Split with Lea. She is extremely knowledgeable and very interesting. She also setup a personal meeting with someone at the synagogue so that we can hear first hand the history of the Jewish people in Split. We highly recommend Lea for your next tour.

This is a suggested itinerary. - Our tour begins at Riva, the waterfront promenade, next to a place where once stood city Lazaretti, quarantine and harbour complex built in 16th century by Portuguese Jew Daniel Rodriga, man who turned Split into important town. - It continues by examining the substructures of Diocletian's palace (UNESCO's heritage site) - We will visit Jewish ghetto and the synagogue. Please note that on certain days Synagogue might be closed. Please dress appropriately when visiting Synagogue. - Tour will end with an easy ascent (10-15 minutes from the city centre) to Marjan forest park, with 16th century Jewish cemetery and the most beautiful view on Split!
