My name is Katja, I am a licensed tour guide and dedicated travel specialist with 18 years of industry expertise and three master's degrees. Born and raised in Split, I studied in Croatia and Austria and traveled throughout Europe in my twenties. I have gained expertise in intercultural communication, arts and history. I know what makes a tour memorable: an in-depth knowledge of a highly educated guide; an intimate, flexible approach that focuses entirely on your preferences; and a relaxed, personalized pace that includes access to some cute hidden gems. Whether you want an island escape, a cultural deep dive, or a scenic nature adventure, I pride myself on my attention to detail, flexibility, and high level of service. I ensure that everyone in the group feels valued and fully immersed in the experience. What sets me apart? The unique blend of skills and experiences I bring to every journey. Beyond guiding, I have a decade of experience as a schoolteacher, giving me a natural ability to connect with children and create educational and fun experiences for families. I know how to adapt tours for different age groups, keeping younger travelers curious and engaged while allowing parents and grandparents to relax and enjoy themselves. As a published author, I offer a deeper, more meaningful perspective on Croatia’s cultural heritage and political background. I bring stories to life, connect historical narratives with contemporary changes, and provide unique insights into local settings. This combination of expertise and sensibility ensures that my tours are transdisciplinary, dynamic and inspiring. Whether traveling with children or seeking a richer cultural experience, my guests enjoy a truly one-of-a-kind journey. As a passionate equestrian and dog lover, I am happy to say that pets are welcome on all my walking tours, so you can enjoy the tour with your beloved animal companions. I can also adapt all my tours to accommodate guests with walking disabilities, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable experience for everyone. Ivan Mestrovic or “Croatian Michelangelo” as we like to call the most prominent Croatian artist of the 20th century was originally from Dalmatian village of Otavice, some 40km from Split. The story of his great international success is set up in the turbulent years of the two world wars and many political changes in his homeland of Croatia. The villa in Split that now houses much of his art was his home just a few years before the 2nd World War started, after which he moved to USA. Combination of Diocletian’s Palace walking tour with visit to the breathtaking complex of Mestrovic Villa is the most mesmerizing tour I offer. It’s a blend of vibrant old town of Split and its Roman history and serene, tranquil magic of the most prestigious Meje neighbourhood where Mestrovic’s beautiful villa is located. This tour is the most comprehensive overview of the local lifestyle and beauty, as well as the turbulent 20th century history of Croatia.
We'll start our tour by covering the pedestrian UNESCO protected area of the old town of Split including all the nooks and crannies of Diocletian's Palace from the 3rd century AD - from the stunning substructure rooms over the Emperor's Mausoleum and Jupiter's Temple, to the impressive Golden gate, Vestibule area, Peristyle central square and more! The chronological order of our stops is the same as in my ‘Split for beginners’ tour. What follows is the private transfer with chauffeur to reach Villa Mestrović. You'll get to see: - Western waterfront and its "walk of fame" of all sportsmen of Split who won Olympic medal - St. Stephan’s Park, the most romantic place in town - Mestrovic Villa with its lush Mediterranean garden full of impressive marble statues - the collections in all interior rooms including the original dining room - the terrace area with the breathtaking sea view - the chapel & Renaissance summer residency Crikvine Drive back to port/old town.
