This walking tour wants to show you the hidden, old quarters of Vienna's city center. Away from imperial squares and huge pedestrian zones, you are to discover narrow lanes, small picturesque squares, romantic fountains and hidden courtyards. You will hear about the daily life during medieval times, about Vienna as a melting pot of different cultures, religions and traditions. Famous historical celebrities will pass your way, interesting and funny legends will amuse you, e. g. I will show you where Mozart was fired by his boss - the archbishop of Salzburg - in a very rude way which made him decide to stay in Vienna (until his early death with 35 years) and compose his biggest works here. . . Good for Vienna! During the tour we will be visiting an old, traditional Vienna Kaffeehaus (Cafe), talking about the outstanding role that the "institution" of Kaffeehaus has played over centuries and giving you an idea about the typical Viennese "coffee language". A must for all coffee admirers.
Fabulous tour guide, Katharina T. She was professional, well prepared and most gracious. The tour was a wonderful overview of “Old Vienna” and left us wanting to return. We loved the information and the casual banter. It was obvious that Kathi was a student of the history of Vienna. She helped us understand the city’. Our chilly morning with Katharina started in the shelter of St Stephen's cathedral where Katharina shared many insights through the centuries of the cathedral's history. We then sought the warmth in one of Katherina's favorite coffee houses for delightful conversation about Vienna and its history. Better weather allowed us to walk nearby to see the famous mechanical clock at a Viennese insurance company, and Katharina also shared stories about the famous 'Third Man' movie that was shot in Vienna immediately after the end of WWII. Katharina's friendly demeanor helped warm up a chilly start to our visit in Vienna. We highly recommend the CoffeeHouse tour.
Katarina is a great guide. She has a deep knowledge of history and that added to our experience. She also tailored her tour for us--not rushing the 74 year old and providing enough interest for the 12 year old. A great way to get acquainted with Vienna. Plus it was very busy in Vienna. Yet she found us a great cafe off the beaten track with fabulous strudel.
Katharina is a true historian, passionate about her topic and it was a thrill for us to spend a few hours listening to her interesting stories and information about Old Vienna. She made the past come alive and the time went by too quickly. Coffee houses are ‘our thing’ (4 retirees) and Kathi made our visit to them special. Definitely recommend her as a guide in vienna!!
Amazing tour and highly recommend. We were a party of 9 with teenage children ages 17-20 and everyone loved the tour.
Katharine made our two days in Vienna very special. In two words "the Best". She deserves a 10 rating in all categories but if 5 is as high as you go she deserves 5's in every category.
This tour will concentrate on the very city center: St. Stephens square and surroundings. This is where the most interesting coffee houses and pastry shops are located, also those, to which a lot of the given information and the Vienna Kaffeehaus-history is related to.
