I'm Phil D., your private tour guide in New York City

Guide #12197

Hi, I'm Phil, licensed to be a tourist guide by the City of New York's Department of Consumer Affairs and a member of the Guides Association of New York City (GANYC). I began my tourist guiding career to share my passion for the Big Apple with tourists and locals alike. You do not need to be an out-of-towner to enjoy the sights and stories that I will share with you. My walking tours offer something for everyone! I have worked with tourist from around the world, students and seniors. My training as an actor allows me to enunciate and speak for all to understand. I wanted to live in Greenwich Village from a young age. For 46 years I have lived, loved, laughed, and learned in this vibrant and colorful neighborhood! I like the Village because of its small-town atmosphere in a big city. With its irregular street plan, named streets, easy charm and human scale I find The Village comforting. After taking my Greenwich Village Walking Tour you will fall in love with it too! I am a keen observer of details. I share what I have seen over the years and in the present moment on my tours with a dash of humor and a splash of insight that can come only from a longtime resident. Please allow me to share with you New York City, the place that I call home. During all my tours, I will connect the sights with fun facts and fascinating tales, helping to create for you a rich experience of New York. I'm a good photographer, too; I can help you take memorable photographs of your visit to the Big Apple that you will want to share with others. Come along with me, let's talk about and walk about New York. Take the Tour; Know More! • I am licensed by the New York City Department of Consumer Affairs to be a tourist guide in the Big Apple. • I am a member of the Guides Association of New York City (GANYC). • I enjoyed a 35-year career as a graphic designer and art director for NYC publishing companies. I have a strong interest in art, architecture, and history, which are the focus of my tours. • I volunteer for Education Department at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. I lead walking tours of New York City. Walking is not only the best exercise, it is also the best way to see the Big Apple. When transportation is needed the subway gets us where we want to go efficiently, inexpensively, and like a local.

Phil tailored our visit to the Met so that we saw new areas and exhibits and easily avoided the crowds (especially welcome on a very busy Saturday). His extensive knowledge was presented in a very engaging and humorous way, making our extensive visit go by almost too quickly! We highly recommend Phil.

Phil was awesome! We did the Met Highlights tour. He is very knowledgeable about the works of art, and understands what is interesting to people. He moves at a fast pace, which felt rushed at first, but then I understood why: in the two hours there we barely scratched the surface of the many amazing displays; a slower pace would have made us miss out on a portion of what...

Thank you for booking my tour, Matthew, and for writing-up such a nice review. I am happy to know that you enjoyed the tour. I do love The Met so much; I want to share as much of its encyclopedic collection as possible with my tour guests.

Thank you, Michele for your review. I appreciate it. What a pleasure it was showing your group the wonderful art & artifacts at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Phil is doing a great job, focusing more on the museum’s history and architectural designs, which you might not enjoy as much alone as you would, for example, with the artworks.
