I'm Brad P., your private tour guide in Hiroshima
Guide #78616
I am a retired US Marine who has lived in and around the Hiroshima area for about 20 years. I have been an English teacher for the past 15 years and a private tour guide for the past three years. I have been married to the same great lady for the past 22 years. We have two daughters, 21 and 17. Both are bilingual and have been educated in Japan. My tours focus on the guest experience, ensuring everyone has a great time and sees everything they want to within our allotted time. We will discuss history, politics (regarding WWII and the use of nuclear weapons), religion, economics, and any other topics that come to mind as we spend time together. I have studied Japanese history extensively, and I am also familiar with the pre-war history of Hiroshima. Caveat Emptor: I am mostly deaf in my left ear, but I use a hearing aid that helps, and I have an ambulatory disability that makes me walk slowly. If you're looking for a detail-oriented tour about history with a fun-loving guide that isn't in a hurry to get anywhere, I'm your guy. My favorite color is green, and my favorite animal is a King Penguin. I love fried chicken. I also know a plethora of jokes that my daughters refuse to laugh at, even though they are hilarious. Batteries not included.

Brad designed our tour carefully so we to avoid large crowds at various locations to the best of his ability. We started the day with a trip to Miyajima and strolled leisurely as deer roamed the streets, stopped for coffee and had great conversations. We so much enjoyed visiting the shrine and eating in a tiny local restaurant before returning on the ferry to Hiroshima. ...

I felt fortunate to find Brad for a tour of three women. Having English as his native language was so helpful. I wanted to learn of the history and rebuilding of the Hiroshima area. He found us a great local place to eat. Because we spent so much time asking questions, exploring and having lunch we decided to take a taxi to the island to help speed things up. There just...

October 2026I really do love my home! You ladies were such a joy to spend the day with! Other than the lunch fiasco, which was out of our hands because we were rushing around, it was a great day. We were lucky that there weren't many people and you were able to beat the crowds.

We thoroughly enjoyed our day with Brad. He is knowledgeable, professional and his love for Japan & Hiroshima are evident. As a transplanted American US Marine veteran married to a beautiful Japanese lady he has a unique perspective and communicates well in English and Japanese. He showed us parts of the city we wouldn't have seen on a group tour.

May 2026I had a great time with you both. Our tour was fun, and I enjoyed being tested and learning a few new things from Google as we walked. Your stories from your time in Japan were very entertaining!

Our guide seemed a bit disorganized and lacked answers to many of the questions we posed.

April 2026I’m seriously confused as I only seem to remember not being able to answer only one question your group had. But still got the answer from google translate. I met your group early, found you a place to store your luggage, stayed with your group after our tour was finished and made sure you got where you were supposed to be. Disorganized, yes. Deserving of my two stars...
