Bonjour! My name is Julien. I'm a Parisian (or maybe I should say a suburban Parisian but don't tell anyone please. . . ) and I love my city. I love how cosmopolitan is Paris and I love its architecture and its museums. To learn about Paris is an endless book. Maybe because there was something about Arts running into my veins already when I was born as (several generations of Architects in my family), I became very interested in Arts from a young age. I could spend hours trying to copy the Mona Lisa. . . Then another passion emerged: learning about other cultures and languages after my first exchange with a Spaniard when I was a teenager. This was the first time I understood how big was the world and how different could be the cultures. This enhanced my interest in learning languages and took me abroad for studies and work experiences in UK, Spain, Mexico. After teaching Spanish for eight years I thought that being a guide would be the most pleasant way to share my two passions, languages and arts with people. And now you can find me at the Louvre, on City Island, Marais or other places, unveiling the stories and secrets of the paintings at the Louvre and monuments of Paris and tasting a piece of cheese or a macaron! So join me on one of my tours and feel free to ask for a customized tour if you have a special interest. I really like to create new tours and tailor tours to people's interests. I'm looking forward to meeting you soon in Paris A bientôt! The Rodin museum has one of the best collection of works by Auguste Rodin. It's nested in a stunning 18th century rococo mansion of the elegant area of the Faugourg Saint Germain where Rodin actually spent time to receive people when he was already one of the most coveted artists of his time. The stunning collection is both displayed in the gardens and the mansion. Through the tour we will see the evolution of his style and try to understand how an aspiring sculptor who was rejected three times from the prestigious Parisian school of fine arts turned into the most famous sculptor of his time. But we'll also see how much his personal life influenced his art, especially the tormented relaltionship with his once associate and lover, Camille Claudel with whom he had a very tormented relationship.
We'll first walk in the beautiful gardens of the museum to see some of the statues, the Gates of hell, the Burghers of calais, the Thinker and Balzac. Then we'll visit the collection housed in the mansion and we'll be focusing on some of his most reknown statues (the age of bronze, John the Baptist, the kiss, Balzac, Victor Hugo, the walking man) but also his personal life. We'll be ending with our tour with the moving room dedicated to Camille Claudel and I'll tell you how she re-emerged from oblivion in the 1980s.
