The tours I give always have a level of enthusiasm that is beyond scripted - because I live here and know that each day brings changes that will interest me and let me excite the tourist. I know the landmarks, but I know the locals, and I can make a tour of an "ordinary" neighborhood exciting because I also know the history of New York. I know why this is the Empire City, and can convey the excitement of discovery on virtually every corner. I have learned to love this city perhaps as one learns to love a beautiful yet willful woman. For me to make a real and true connection with it, I had to become better acquainted with New York through an elaborate series of "dates" with its neighborhoods and their histories. I felt the city telling me to learn more about it first; I had to prove that I cared. Every neighborhood, just as every business in them, is like a library of melodramas and romances written by its denizens, past and present, all informed by a history that is growing every day from the hands, hearts and minds of those people. By running and walking, and making contacts with people in these neighborhoods and businesses, I have fully embraced my lover's assignment. In fact, after entering all these neighborhoods and businesses I felt compelled to "check out" and read their literature. I have became a licensed tour guide. I taught students how to pass the city's tour guide exam at City College. I lead groups, both large and small, that include high school students, businessmen and other adults, as well as retirees, both from the U.S. as well as abroad. I love taking people around my city. Licensed New York City and Washington, DC Tour Guide; B.A., M.A., English; urban historian. My NYC license No. is 0975275; D.C. is TGL11706

I have lived in Manhattan for over 45 years, so many areas (including the WTC) are personal for me. We will see where my father's first office was in 1946 - which I learned later upon going through my father's papers was where my office was in 1993 on the day of the first attack on the World Trade Center! Walk with me and hear how the city's neighborhoods grew and were affected by changes in transportation and shipping, how city planners moved for changes that would benefit them and their businesses - and how their businesses began to be outmoded when the world of the internet gained primacy. Downtown Manhattan is like the root, and midtown like the flower - but we'll see how both are blooming now! We will take the subway up to Midtown, at Grand Central Terminal, and explore how midtown has grown and will be taller still - this half day's tour will be a great intro to New York - and America. too! Please come with me on a walk through the past into the present - and the future
We will begin at the Brooklyn Bridge, walking in this order: • The Brooklyn Bridge: we will begin our walk here, near City Hall • City Hall: the oldest city Hall in the nation, the seat of our city, and the "key" to Downtown NYC • St. Paul's Chapel: associated with Trinity Church, this was where George Washington first worshipped during hit first days of his presidency • The new Fulton Street Transit Hub - part of the reconstruction of the World Trade Center neighborhood • The Federal Reserve Bank • Wall Street • The U. S. Bankruptcy Court and the Alexander Hamilton Customs House, now part of the Museum of the American Indian • Battery Park, the Netherlands memorial flagpole, and Castle Clinton; and • The World Trade Center and the 9/11 Memoria We will then take the subway uptown and may see • Grand Central Terminal, • The Chrysler Building • The United Nations Complex • 42nd Street and Times Square • Rockefeller Center and 5th Avenue • St. Patrick's Cathedral • The Plaza Hotel and Central Park

The tour is described here as a walking tour supplemented by a subway ride. This can be modified, albeit at an extra cost, if a taxi be preferred (although subways are faster), or your group has a coach. Please inquire - we can work it out!
