Growing up in New York City, I can't imagine living anywhere else. I usually walk around different neighborhoods when I'm off and, try new restaurants that I can afford. I'd love to share my personal New York City stories with you! Most popular tours of mine are history and food walking tours. I also conduct museum and driving tours. All can be customized to your itinerary and preferences. Like one dog year equals seven human years, one New York City day is seven days in other cities, if not more! People from all over the world come here "to make it", bringing their rich cultures along in the pursuit of many things besides happiness. America started right here in New York City! From the gleaming towers to hotdog stands, from the austere looking businessmen to subway artists, from the hustle bustle midtown to the serene Central Park, hop on my tours and let's explore! "London is satisfied, Paris is resigned, but New York is always hopeful. Always it believes that something good is about to come off, and it must hurry to meet it. Do you know Chinatown is more than 150 years old and Chinese food started feeding New Yorkers earlier than hotdog, bagel and pizza? This walking tour will take you into the alleyways of New York City's world famous Chinatown. It is an exploration of history and culture heritages. We will visit mom and pop shops, savor culinary delights that made Chinatown and Chinese food an intrinsic part of New York City life. Some of the dishes we will sample are actually endorsed by my parents! As we devour our way through this vibrant community, I will guide you to discover Chinatown's enigmatic and assiduous past, and the commitment of its residents to building a better life for the next generation. This tour offers a taste of a variety of Chinese food and can be tailored to your dietary preferences. Please make sure to inform me at least 24 hours before the tour if you need customization.
Robert is very knowledgeable, engaging, and easily accommodated our vegetarian needs. Thanks!
My wife, our 12 year old daughter, I did the Chinatown food tour with Robert. Everything about our time with Robert was incredible. The food selections and places Robert chose to take us were delicious and unique. The food selections gave us a taste of of multiple areas of China and the restaurants were not the typical place people would know about without being with a local. What was even better than the food was Robert’s passion and personality. His knowledge of the history of China and Chinese cultures and how engaging his stories were have us still talking about how much fun we had. Hearing his personal story and his family’s story was the cherry on top. We will definitely use Robert again as he let us know he does some other food tours as well. We highly recommend Robert and the Chinatown food tour!
Robert Z. was born to be a tour guide. He's warm, engaging, funny, and a gifted storyteller. He made me feel welcome and interested in everything he had to share. The food stops were perfect! Under the radar, places I would never have thought to go to on my own. I loved having Robert's guidance about what dishes to try, and also getting some fascinating history along the way. What a great intro to New York's Chinatown - a neighbourhood I hadn't spent time in before. Thank you Robert! I can see why you have repeat customers!
We had the best time experiencing Chinatown with Robert! We tried lots of amazing food from different restaurants, including some of the best noodles we've ever had! And Robert was great to fill in important stories behind the community that help show how it got to be where it is today. I especially appreciated going to some of the parts of Chinatown that were less overtaken by visitors in addition to the more well known spots. Overall we had a blast and this was easily a highlight of our trip to NYC.
Robert's tour of Chinatown is a true gem. It ended up being the highlight of our trip to NYC. The best part for me was walking past the Insta-famous eating places that had long lines of tourists and subprime B level health ratings, to a hidden basement restaurant with a prime A level health rating with no lines, no tourists, and AMAZING food. I nominate Robert for the next Golden Guide award.
Excellent tour. Our host was charming and very informative. Delicious food and lot of it! Would highly recommend this tour.
We will start our adventure in the new part of Chinatown called "Little Fuzhou" and make our way into the heart of the old Chinatown: the intersections of Mott Street, Pell Street and the infamous Doyers Street. You will meet some fascinating historical figures along the way. The tour will conclude at Columbus Park, the center of "Five Points", a densely populated, crime infested slum existed for more than 70 years. Total walking distance is about 1 mile and lasts up to 3 hours. We will sample 4-5 dishes originated and evolved from the 8 main regional cuisines in China, such as dumplings, noodles and more. This tour is a delicious treat, as well as a time travel of an immigration saga, it is a time and taste tested adventure. My customers always rate it as the best and highlight of their trips. Dress according to weather, put on your walking shoes, come hungry and let's go to Chinatown!
