Hey ya'll! My name is Steve and I am excited you're thinking about joining me for a fantastic, fun adventure in the Nashville and Tennessee locale! Remember, if you don't see a tour agenda you like, I can always customize one for you. In fact, the majority of the tours I guide are just that. Just message me! Originally from Texas, I moved to Nashville in 1992 and started giving private guided tours the very next year. I was drawn here for the music, became a professional songwriter on Music Row in '93 for Ten Ten Music, the same folks who introduced and managed Alan Jackson (whom I met a sang with on one of his Christmas albums!) and Keith Urban (who I had the privilege of hanging out with one on one and wrote a song with!); and went on to write for Starstruck (Reba McIntyre's company), and MCA. During my time on the Row I got to meet or spend time with pretty much every artist of the 90's and early 2000's, from Garth to Chesney, Chestnutt to Reba, and usually have a story to tell about any of those from that era. Having had several major artists record my songs, I left the business after 7 years and started a successful pool construction company, built swimming pools over 22 years for the likes of Jason Aldean and many others, sold the company in 2022 and semi-retired, to be able to spend more time doing what I REALLY love, showing people the charming and often hidden side of our enchanting city from a local's point of view. I'm a travel buff, having put together tours in Italy, other distinctive cities such as Charleston, Chattanooga, Charlotte, Memphis, Sedona and many more. I like to focus on the inside stuff, little known knowledge that will make the tourist feel like an insider after the tour. A music buff, studying and researching the history of country, blues, rock and alternative. We can talk about the musicians, artists and songs that make us laugh, move and cry! A history buff, having traced my own roots to their beginnings in the deep south. And researched the Civil War battles and paths that crossed our Middle Tennessee region, especially the journey of one I share my surname with, General John Bell Hood. I'm also a food buff, literally trying 100s of local restaurants, taking notes on them and their fare to share with others. Most of all, I'm a people buff! I love people in general! And my goal is to give my tour groups the amazing immersive experience of Nashville and Middle Tennessee that they would get nowhere else! Come join me for a unique and memorable blast of an adventure!! A private tour guide for Nashville and surrounding area for 31 years. Former professional staff songwriter for Ten Ten Music, Starstruck Publishing, and MCA Music. Recipient of multiple national and Tennessee state APSP awards for best design and build of swimming pools as owner and builder. Long standing member of the Better Business Bureau. Small group leader and Head Usher at local church. None.

The tour guide will take you on a walk down the streets of Music Row, where country music has been made since the 50's. (Note: contrary to some guides and websites, Broadway and Demonbreun are NOT Music Row. ) You'll see the buildings where songwriters have penned the big hits like "He Stopped Loving Her Today" and the publishing houses and studios where the biggest hits evolved and were recorded, and where that still continues today. Then you'll immerse yourself in the experience of writing with a former professional songwriter to flesh out an idea, a melody and lyrics to an original song. There's no guarantee the song will be finished by the end of the session, that's not something you force, but you'll at minimum have a good song started. The writer can help you complete the song by correspondence afterward if desired.
I'll pick you up at your hotel or meet at a disclosed location near Music Row in the morning at 9am, or afternoon at 1pm, your choice. Then you'll spend the next hour either driving or walking (depending on weather) down Music Row with your guide pointing out various buildings and locations where music business establishments resided in the heyday of the 90's, and where some still exist today. Once that part of the tour is over you'll move inside to a 'writer's room' and begin work on an original song. You bring the ideas, we'll help you take it from there. Try and bring 5 to 10 ideas, then once the best is agreed upon, that is the one we'll work on. If you have a guitar or other instrument you write with, bring it. If you need to borrow a guitar, let us know and we'll bring an extra. We will work on the song for 3 hours and then record a rough 'work tape' on it that you can take with you digitally on your phone, or we'll email it to you. * Itinerary can be customized. Feel free to contact me.
Tell your guide which places matter to you, skip what doesn't, and tailor the experience for your group's needs. Not finding what you want? Message your guide to build something unique.
I'll pick you up at your Nashville hotel or meet and park near Music Row at pre-determined location. Given weather I will either drive you through Music Row, or walk with you. Which writer room location is used may change due to availability, the guide can either take you there, or have you meet and park there.
