Ninth Generation Nashvillian who is an expert on all things Nashville including Country Music, Civil Rights Woman's Suffrage, Architecture, Business history, Higher Education history, Business history, Sports, and local museums. I have lived in Nashville my entire life and I am seen and the go to person for Nashville history and tours. I am a Historian and have the largest private collection of Nashville memorabilia and many are currently on display at the Parthenon. I was named "Best Nashville Historian" in 2018 but the Nashville Scene. I am a frequent writer and speaker of Nashville history and have talking about Nashville history in the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Washington Post, NPR All Things Considered and on PBS American Masters. My family has been in Nashville since its founding and was enslaved at Andrew Jackson's Hermitage and John Overton's Travellers Rest. My tours are more like deep conversations about the past, present and the future. I give tours to VIPs, YPO Groups, elected officials, school groups, conventions, travelers, family reunions and I also provide Step On Guides for Bus Tours. I enjoy taking people to some of my favorite buildings like the Ryman Auditorium, The Parthenon, Tennessee State Capitol and the Country Music Hall of Fame. I was involved in programming the Civil Rights Room and the Votes for Women Room in the Downtown Library which are also my favorites. I have tours on any subject in Nashville so if you want a customized tour I can provide that for you. You will enjoy your stay in Nashville and see why it is one of the most popular cities in the United States to visit. Our Nashville tour with David was one of the best tours we've had anywhere, and we have toured extensively through local guides, ContextTravel, etc. David is a combination of historian, actively engaged civic leader, artistic, and socially conscious storyteller. We covered all aspects of Nashville, from the Civil War to Civil Rights to Women's rights to Country Music. And he apparently knows everyone one would want to know in Nashville. I cannot recommend David highly enough. Just tour with him!

There is no better tour guide than David. He is an excellent historian so his knowledge of the history of Nashville is unmatched. He has served on the boards of many cultural organizations & has also loaned his collection of memorabilia for the public to enjoy. 9 generations of his family have lived in the area so there are interesting & meaningful stories that add to the tour. David is super efficient & pleasant. He answers messages quickly & knows the quickest ways around the city.

Texas meets Nashville with the best tour guide in the city! Wow! The 6-hour tour went by too quickly and we can't quit talking about David. He shared so much knowledge and history with us about Nashville, Civil Rights, Women's suffrage, and Country Music. Prior to our tour, David took the time to ask us what we wanted to see and do on our special day with him so he could give us the best experience during our time in this great city. He exceeded our expectations and we are so grateful!

"5 out of 5" for our Nashville tour. We were particularly interested in a civil rights journey through the City. David is "the" expert whose family has lived the civil rights journey. David is a true historian

David exceeded all expectations. He gave us a unique and highly educational tour of some of Nashville's most important historical sites. He generously shared his and his family's personal knowledge and experience of life and the struggle for civil rights in Nashville over multiple generations. David also introduced us to many of the most interesting cultural sites of present day Nashville. He seems to know everyone. We could not have asked for a better introduction to Nashville.
