Nashville's history - that's my game. What is or even what will be has never captured my imagination quite like what was. I've lived here in what is often called "music city" nearly my entire life. I've never wanted to live anywhere else. I'm always excited to show our visitors and new residents around the place, my kind of town with a rich and varied historic legacy. There's more to Nashville than music, as important as that now is. Since I was a boy I've walked the Nashville battlefield and imagined the soldiers at war here. When I was nine years old I went with my family to the Vanderbilt stadium to hear President Kennedy. I live in a "historic" neighborhood in a house built nearly a hundred years ago. Only a few years ago I witnessed the devastation of the Great Flood. Nashvilles history has been, in large part my own history. Its in my blood and very much alive. For years friends and family would laugh and say: "Jim! You should be a tour guide. . or a history teacher. " So let me show you around and give you an experience you won't forget! -Lifelong history buff and Nashville resident. -Hold a Masters degree from Vanderbilt University. -Eagle scout and twenty plus years as a registered BSA adult leader where I've been the defacto tour guide on various USA high adventure experiences. -Have participated for over forty years in various Living History events relating to the Revolutionary and Civil War. -As a remodeling contractor I've worked on many local historic structures becoming familiar with the architectural development and growth of Nashville. -I've written over sixty history related articles in my history blog. Most concern local history.

Overview of your Nashville tour

Are you a serious Civil War buff? This is for you! A day long journey exploring Civil War sites such as Winstead Hill, the Carter House grounds, Lodz House and the Carnton Cemetery in Franklin and then a visit to several key sites relating to the 1862-1865 Federal occupation of Nashville (downtown) and key sites on the Nashville battlefield- December 15-16, 1864 including Fort Negley, Belmont mansion, Redoubt Number 1, the Peace Monument, Shy's Hill and much more(if time permits). We usually break for lunch in Franklin and head to Nashville(twenty five miles North) on the same road used by the soldiers 150 years ago. This is a day long journey into the past for the serious Civil War buff. Mr. Hardaway is a life long student of the Nashville Campaign and has spent many hours over the last fifty years walking the ground, finding and collecting relics, studying historical documents, and living with the subject as a CW reenactor.

My cousin is a history lover and especially the Civil War, so I booked a tour for her, my sister and myself. The communication was outstanding and I was able to talk with him prior to the tour to get some additional information which made our visit to Nashville even better. Jim is knowledgeable, kind, humorous, and basically just wonderful. He drove us around safely and efficiently and we saw a lot. He personalized our tour. We really enjoyed the Lotz home tour and highly recommend that.

Jim was very knowledgeable of historical facts. His stories were told with very expressively - would keep anyone from 5 to 95 engaged. He had artifacts to let you touch and feel which added to the historical stories he told. I would highly recommend.

We can not recommend this Tour and Jim highly enough. We had a great day, learned a lot, and Jim's lunch recommendation was fantastic. Jim's knowledge of the area, the many sites we went to and his willingness to answer all of our questions was so great. He also gave us a recommendation of a great place for us to visit the day before our tour with him. Book a tour with him you will have a great day and learn something as well. Thank you so very much!!

This was a very enjoyable, insightful, and helpful tour. I had selected this tour in order to provide background content for a book project and Jim had not only an excessive amount of valuable knowledge, but also delivered it in a straightforward, and entertaining way. The ability to shape some of the specifics within the tour make it an ideal choice for those interested in this history, as well as its links to today's world.
