Nashville's history - that's my game. What is or even what will be has never captured my imagination quite like what was. I've lived here in what is often called "music city" nearly my entire life. I've never wanted to live anywhere else. I'm always excited to show our visitors and new residents around the place, my kind of town with a rich and varied historic legacy. There's more to Nashville than music, as important as that now is. Since I was a boy I've walked the Nashville battlefield and imagined the soldiers at war here. When I was nine years old I went with my family to the Vanderbilt stadium to hear President Kennedy. I live in a "historic" neighborhood in a house built nearly a hundred years ago. Only a few years ago I witnessed the devastation of the Great Flood. Nashvilles history has been, in large part my own history. Its in my blood and very much alive. For years friends and family would laugh and say: "Jim! You should be a tour guide. . or a history teacher. " So let me show you around and give you an experience you won't forget! -Lifelong history buff and Nashville resident. -Hold a Masters degree from Vanderbilt University. -Eagle scout and twenty plus years as a registered BSA adult leader where I've been the defacto tour guide on various USA high adventure experiences. -Have participated for over forty years in various Living History events relating to the Revolutionary and Civil War. -As a remodeling contractor I've worked on many local historic structures becoming familiar with the architectural development and growth of Nashville. -I've written over sixty history related articles in my history blog. Most concern local history.

Ordinarily this tour starts in downtown Nashville but, practically speaking, I will start talking as soon as I pick the traveler(s) up. It is a four hour on-site presentation of eight to ten significant spots on the Nashville map: - Old City Cemetery, Tenn state capital building. ( from outside) Bicenntennial Mall -. “Germantown” - Fort Negley, the -Belmont Mansion, -Battle of Nashville "Peace Monument" -, Shy's Hill, maybe Refoubt #1 - Belle Meade Plantation -Centennial Park, site of the 1897 Centennial Exposition and the Parthenon, and maybe the Marathon Motor Works.

Outstanding tour, highly recommend if you want to know all about Nashville.
Jim gave us a wonderful tour of Nashville mostly pertaining to the history of the area. He is a great guide and really knows the history of Nashville. So, if you want to do something other than visit the party scenes and have visited the country music museums, etc. this is the man to see. My husband is a bit of a Civil War history buff and he enjoyed this tour very much. And I did also.
Jim is very knowledgeable about a wide range of topics. He is a Civil War buff which comes through in the information he shares. He has numerous contacts in the music industry which made that portion of the tour that much more interesting. He was flexible in where we spent our time and was very open to a multitude of questions.
Jim is very knowledgeable. The tour was fascinating. He was very engaging and fun to listen to. He is enthusiastic about the real history of Nashville. I would most definitely take him as my tour guide when we'll get to Nashville next time. Kudos to Jim for his vast coverage of Nashville's history. He is an excellent very cautious driver.
Jim took us to Franklin to see some of the Civil War sites. He was knowledgeable and compassionate, which enhanced our experience.
This is a 10-12 mile giant circle (starting and ending ordinarily near the downtown area) visiting sites around the southern portion of Nashville-Davidson County. The battle portion of the tour will roughly follow the flow of the battle of Nashville (Dec. 1864) ending at Shy's Hill where the battle did indeed (for the most part) end. Weather should only be a factor in extreme icy or rainy conditions. The hike up Shy's Hill is a bit strenuous. Some may not want to attempt it. It'll depend on the wishes of the travelers. Andrew Jackson’s Hermitage? This is a “field trip” unto itself and cannot be included in my “Nashville” tour. Outside tour guides(like me) are not allowed to speak on the “tour” part of this property. Gotta see “The Hermitage?” No problem but…you don’t need me. Uber will be happy to take you out there. And take you back into town.
