Hi and a big welcome to our home Northern Ireland. I am Rodney and I would be delighted to show you around Northern Ireland. We have spectacular scenery, the rich culture in our Towns and Cities and lots of great places to visit and experiences to enjoy. I have a real passion for the History of Ireland I love telling the stories of our people and their lives. I love travelling around the world and appreciate the welcome I have experienced in so many countries and the fun enjoyed meeting locals and sharing in their lives. In my tours I like to share this welcome with our visitors. My walking and driven tours will allow you to experience and explore Northern Ireland through the eyes of a local. If you are interested in history, beautiful coastal or rural scenery, cities and towns or just get a lively introduction to life in Ulster I will design the tour to match your time and interests. I have level 4 qualifications in both Tour guiding and Hill Walking (Level 4) so you are in safe hands for your visit to Northern Ireland. I am a committee member of Tour Guides NI (TGNI) and work with my fellow guides to deliver the best of Northern Ireland to our visitors I really love to create experiences for my guests based on their choices so the more details you give me of your preferences to better we can make your visit. My Tours can take you back to the mists of time as we explore the earliest settlers on the Island. We can explore the changing history of these Island down through the ages from Celts, Vikings, Anglo-Normans, Plantations, invasions and then the impact of Famine and the Industrial Revolution. Belfast was transformed from a smelly town with 20, 000 inhabitants in the year 1800 to become the jewel in the British empire and one of the richest cities in the world in 1900 as our Linen and Shipbuilding skills lead the world with their innovation and technical skills. Our tours explore the people and places who transformed our society and also the humble lives of the workers who helped create this transformation. We can create experiences from 2 hours to as long as you have available. Our Cavehill Walking tours are a brilliant way to be introduced to Belfast. Our walking tour visits Belfast Castle and takes a narrow pathway to the Peak where we visit a Stone Age cairn and take in views across to Scotland and across most of Northern Ireland. Our Coastal Eco tours make use of local Rail to visit the Norman town of Carrickfergus or the ancient Abbey town of Bangor. Our History of Linen Tours will provide our guests with a fascinating insight into an industry that changed the face of Belfast. Rodney was an excellent guide for our Genealogy Tour - He and Boyd Gary were prepared ahead of time to arrange to see relevant sites - residences, cemetery, and local points of interest. Boyd had prepared a family tree background set and they were able to introduce us to relatives who reside in the area. Could not have been more satisfied with this experience. It was a full day of value and limited only by my memory. We were given several documents to support our interests so time could be spent seeing and experiencing the homeland.

In 1911 my father left Belfast and emigrated to Canada aboard the Scotian. Little was known about his family. In advance of our trip to Ireland, my niece and I provided Rodney Ferguson, a pedigree chart hoping to expand our family tree. With his facilitation, we hit ‘genealogical gold’ and added three generations of information and insight! Rodney and colleague, Boyd Gray, escorted us to Portadown, County of Armagh, to visit ancestral farmlands and the Seagoe Parish Center, the church our family members attended and the cemetery where they were buried. Filling out this incredible day of discovery were visits to the 4 addresses where my father had resided in Belfast, an uncle’s grave at the Dundonald Cemetery, and the port from where the Scotian set sail. Rodney facilitated a truly memorable experience for which we are eternally grateful.

We highly recommend Rodney- he has all the attributes of a superior tour guide. He is well read and so knowledgeable of the historical and cultural dimensions of Northern Ireland and Belfast in particular. He is personable and easy going and is an excellent driver, transporting us in a comfortable luxury car . His partnership with genealogist Boyd Gray of West Ulster Genealogy made the tour exceptionally memorable for us. Rodney and Boyd were able to locate the church and farmlands where our ancestors had lived before emigrating to the US and provided us with the genealogical sources AND actually took us to the locations- we were thrilled to visit Castledawson, Carraloan and Aughrim, Ulster. The tour far exceeded our expectations and we are so grateful to Rodney and Boyd.
