During the Victorian times, Belfast thrived as a town and had outgrown Dublin the Capital of Ireland due to the shipbuilding and linen industries introduced by the close ties to Great Britain and the Unionist population. Then in 1921 Belfast became the capital city of the newly formed British region of Northern Ireland as Ireland got its long-sought Independence to become a free state. Belfast flourished as a city right up to the late '60s when a new era of violence broke out known as the Troubles. A bloody 30-year period that saw over 10, 000 bombs 3, 500 lives lost, and over 50, 000 badly wounded. Michael is a very good, personable tour guide with a detailed and personal knowledge of Northern Ireland’s history, especially the city of Belfast. John took us on a very interesting and enlightening driving tour through Belfast with several stops at sites of historical interest and importance. We came away with a new understanding and appreciation for the history of Northern Ireland and Belfast in particular. We highly recommend Michael as a tour guide in Dublin.

Having never been to Belfast, we took full advantage of this excellent 5-hour tour with Michael, who is knowledgeable and personable. He drove us to many different sectors of the city while telling us of both its history and current affairs. We were fascinated! Highlights were the Peace Wall and the Titanic museum.
