Bangkok: Bicycle Experiences and Longtail Boat Canal Cruise

This was an outstanding tour. The bike riding portion was very enjoyable, pleasant without being difficult. The boat ride through the canals was also a very pleasant way to spend an hour while seeing sites that’s not available in the main part of the city. Prayuth was a wonderful guide, knowledgeable and constantly made sure everything was going well. I would highly recommend this tour. ****Just not note, the meeting point on the website was not accurate. It’s actually the Russian Embassy. Thank you to a very friendly Grab driver who figured this out and called the number to get me to the correct meeting point. I did mention it to Prayuth and hopefully it’s been remedied.

This is a tour (private or group trips are available) out of a small bike shop in a middle class neighborhood, maybe a ten minute Grab ride from the major downtown hotels along the river. It seemed a bit sketchy at first, but ultimately, the bikes were good, the guide was great, and it was fascinating to ride through "normal" residential areas not far from the center of town. We ate in a place that initially seemed sketchy, but I checked out the cleanliness of the kitchen and it was pretty good, considering an open air venue in a country like Thailand, and the food was very good. We rode down some pretty narrow paths and mostly stayed away from roads with traffic, although it's not possible to avoid crossing them entirely. Probably the most disconcerting part of the ride was along a narrow path with basically a polluted creek alongside it; a mistake along that part would have been very unpleasant, but we could have, and probably should have, walked this short stretch. We had originally paired it with a long tail boat tour, but we took a similar boat tour on the previous day. and, while this would have been a different canal, I think ultimately they look pretty much the same, so we skipped the boat tour and rode a bit further. It was a great way to see a different side of Bangkok.

Wow ! What am amazing morning we had biking and floating through the canals in a longboat through Thonburi. After meeting our guide at the shop we toured through the backstreets of the neighborhoods. Along the way we had complementary Thai mini coconut pancakes, stopped at a local Buddhist temple for a brief but fascinating tour with our guide, and floated in the canals in a longboat where we also sampled another local cake. We finished our exploration through more of the streets and original houses built many years ago. Our guide spoke excellent English, was really friendly and supplied us so many bottles water to keep us hydrated in the Bangkok heat. We also were impressed with her extensive knowledge about the places and temples on our path. After the tour we visited with Prayuth and our guide and learned even more about them and the local culture. It was great!
