I joined ToursByLocals in 2024 and was honored with a 2026 Golden Guide Award for my DMZ tours delivering the most well-structured and immersive experiences during a single day. This is a highly selective distinction, as only about 25 winners are chosen from a global network of over 5,000 guides across 170 countries. Before becoming a tour guide, I traveled extensively around the world and within Korea. Prior to this, I spent 15 years working for multinational corporations. I also received my MS degree from a renowned university in the United States. I love not only traveling, but hiking, camping, fishing, skiing, and photography. Overview of your Seoul tour
Oliver and this tour is a 2026 Golden Guide Award winner. DMZ stands for the demilitarized zone and it is definitely the number 1 choice by international tourists. Go on a DMZ tour with a veteran who served in a Combined unit (ROK/US). Paju DMZ is the main destination and you can visit a spot only 170 meters away from the border. The guests will be able to see what are on the north side of the border including a North Korean ground post, villages, a flag tower, Gaeseong City and so on. Oliver will setup a telescope for you to see interesting places easily. The guests also have a chance to enjoy drinks & snacks at a cafe with a North Korean view. During this tour, diverse questions can be answered; 1. Details of the Korean war 2. South-North relationship 3. How South Korean feel about the North Korean nuclear weapons 4. North Korean defectors 5. Future prospect on the Unification 6. Other military issues

DMZ tour was our second tour with Oliver during our vacation in Seoul. Oliver was communicative right from when I booked the private tour. As the first tour, he was early to pick us up from our Airbnb. He was great at explaining the history of Korea during the tour and answering all of our questions (5adults, 1 teen and 2 kids). We had limited time at each location during the DMZ tour and Oliver was really knowledgeable so he helped us maximize our time and see the important areas. He catered to all of our requests and needs and recommended a delicious restaurant for lunch. The van was clean, very comfortable and cool with functioning AC in really hot June weather. He was a great and safe driver. He provided water bottles for my family. I highly recommend Oliver as a private tour guide in DMZ!

Oliver was an amazing guide! He picked us up at our hotel, had an updated and clean vehicle, and was very kind and polite. He was highly knowledgeable about DMZ, appeared passionate about getting us the best tickets and viewing locations, and went out of his way to make us comfortable. He was great with our kids and even took us a to a local village for an amazing lunch. He spoke English fluently and had personal military knowledge/connections that added an extra touch. He also gave outstanding recommendations for other restaurants and attractions in our area. I would highly recommend him and will plan to use his services when we visit again in the future.

Oliver was a wonderful tour guide for our family of 6. He was patient with our multi-generational group and advised on what might work best for each age group. The history and information on the drive to the DMZ set us up well for the various sites we visited. His van was clean and comfortable with well placed AC vents on a 90 degree day. Your Seoul tour itinerary
Pick up from the agreed location in Seoul city center, then visit the places below: - Imjingak (ticket office) - Unification bridge to cross Imjingang river - A military check point at the civilian access control line - The 3rd Infiltration Tunnel - Dorasan Observatory - Unification Village Transfer back to the agreed ending point Must bring your PASSPORTS. If Paju DMZ is closed (on Mondays) or upon the guests' special requests, we can visit Cherwon DMZ. Due to the distance, the tour time will be increased for 1 hour with a small additional cost. The DMZ tour is subject to change without a prior notice with the discretion of the responsible military units.
