Hi, my name is Paola. I was born in Trieste, where I grew up, and after high school I have lived in many different countries. I have qualified as an official tour leader and official tour guide and now I have almost 13 years experience as a tour guide. I love my hometown and I am happy to share my knowledge and to transmit my enthusiasm for my amazing hometown and its breathtaking surroundings. My interest in history and history of art go back to the time of my classical education and university. I then deepened this knowledge with additional studies and developed also further interests in botanic and also in the history of cinema, religions and gastronomy. Overview of your Trieste tour
The tour takes us through this wonderful (although not overly ancient castle) in amazing position over a wonderful bay in the Gulf of Trieste. The castle is situated aproximately a 15 minutes drive from the downtown area and is surrounded by a 22-hectar-wide park. The castel itself is a shrine of reminders of the Austrian period of Trieste and both of the Hapsburg family and the imperial couple which first inhabited it: Maximilian of Austria, brother to the Emperor Franz Joseph, and Charòlotte of Belgium, daughter to the first King of Belgium. The exhibits tell us the story of a huge dream, or of a huge deception, and of its connections with international politics. We will see some improtant portraiots of Austrian rulers and I will tell you about them. Then we continue outside for our discovery of the park, where most plants and trees have their specifical meaning. all this while breathing the wonderful sea-breeze mixed woith the scent of pine trees...
Your Trieste tour itinerary
Meet at the traveller's convenience in downtown. transfert by taxi or train (very impressive but train only available on limited times). We take a first walk through the park until we reach the Castle, where we visit the impressive interior. After that, a tour on the wonderful terrace overlooking the sea is compulsory (except when high waves...). Then we continue our discovery of the park, in both its italian/french-style-garden and in its parts inspired by the English parks, as far as the Castelletto, the smaller Castle (normally not visited inside), also through some excellent spots for some more snapshots.
