Trieste Half Day Walking Tour

Trieste is special and unique. Located at the north end of the Adriatic sea and surrounded by the Karst tableland it has always been at the center of important trading routes and consequently a meeting point of different cultures, languages, religions. It was ruled by the Austrian for over 500 years but still retains its Mediterranean flair. We will explore this beautiful city from its Roman origins on the top of the hill, passing through the medieval part to reach the "città nuova" or "borgo Teresiano" the new town whose construction started in the 18th century, when Trieste became an important seaport and emporium for the Austrian empire. Among elegant buildings, places of worship of different religious communities and stylish bars and cafes we will reach Piazza Unità d'Italia, the biggest European square facing the sea and certainly one of the most beautiful in Italy. -We'll walk up or take the lift to the top of the hill of San Giusto to see the origins of Trieste: the Roman ruins, the precious cathedral and the castle. -As an option, we could also take a walk along the castle's ramparts to enjoy a stunning view of the whole city. -Walking down the hillsides we will get to know the Medieval Trieste that was once surrounded by walls and towers, we'll pass the Roman theatre, go through the Jewish ghetto, Piazza della Borsa and then reach the Borgo Teresiano strolling along the Grand Canal. On our way, we will encounter the Serbian and Greek Orthodox churches as well as very nice cafes and bars, where we can stop for a drink or a snack. -You cannot leave Trieste without taking a stroll on the Audace Pier just before ending our tour in the city's front parlor, Piazza Unità d'Italia, the best place to enjoy the city's vibrant atmosphere.
