Trieste is a beautiful city nested between the north end of the Adriatic sea and the Karst tableland. The tour starts with an easy 45-minute hike on the "Rilke path", a trail that unwinds along the white cliffs of the coastline and offers a spectacular view of the Gulf of Trieste. After that a good glass of local wine accompanied by delicious home made food (you can have just a snack or a full meal) in the warm-hearted and family ambiance of an "osmiza", sort of small "agriturismo" typical of the Karst area. After lunch a short drive to the city of Trieste with a stop at Castello di Miramare. The walking tour of Trieste includes San Giusto cathedral, the ruins of the Roman forum and theatre, the Jewish ghetto, the "Borgo Teresiano" with the "Gran Canal", Piazza della Borsa and Piazza Unità d'Italia, facing the seaside. Sitting at Caffé degli Specchi in one of Italy's most beautiful squares, enjoying the last rays of sun before sunset while sipping your favorite aperitive is an unforgettable experience.
-From our meeting point we are driving to the start of the trail. After the hike a wine tasting and something to eat in an osmiza (farmhouse). -In the afternoon Castello di Miramare the 19th century residence of Maximilian of Habsburg and then Trieste city centre. -Our walking tour in Trieste starts on the hill of San Giusto, there where it all began. We are going to visit the cathedral and take a look at the Roman ruins and the castle. -Going down the hillsides we'll see the medieval Trieste, pass the Roman theatre, the Jewish ghetto, Piazza Borsa and reach Borgo Teresiano also known as "new city", to end in the magnificent Piazza Unità d'Italia. -Trieste is also the city of coffee so there will be time to taste one of the best espressos that you can find in Italy. The itinerary is flexible so contact me if you have any special requests or want to change it.
