This tour is ideal for anyone travelling by train from Paris at 9am on the day of the tour, and arrive at Bayeux train station at around 11. 15am where I will pick you up. We will visit Sainte Mere Eglise, La Pointe du Hoc, Omaha Beach and the American Cemetery. Sainte Mere Eglise was the first town in France to be liberated by American troops in WW2. This strategic crossroads town was captured by the "All American" 82nd Airborne Division. After a quick lunch break, we head off to the Pointe du Hoc to see the 100ft high cliffs of the daring US Army Rangers assault, the many bomb craters and German bunkers. We then will visit Omaha Beach, depicted in opening scenes of the film Saving Private Ryan: here is where the heaviest casualties on D-Day were suffered. Finally you will have time to pay your respects at the American Cemetery. You will learn about the planning and preparations involved to get the largest military operation in history organized, the units involved and their objectives!
