On this tour, we’ll explore a wide range of fascinating sites: a merchant’s private house, the old pharmacy, the market square, the knights’ and nobility’s quarter, several churches, the Town Hall, the guild halls of artisans and merchants — and even the executioner’s house. We’ll wander through the Old Town and see all these preserved landmarks with our own eyes, while discussing how earlier generations lived their daily lives. I’ll tell you who lived in the Upper Town and who in the Lower Town — and whether or not these neighbors got along. You’ll learn who had to pay a fee to enter the town and who didn’t, who the Blackheads were, what the price of black pepper was, and what the proverb “Town air makes one free” meant at the time. During this tour, we’ll touch on many aspects of everyday life in medieval Tallinn.
- At first, I will meet you at your hotel or a lodging, or if you prefer, we could just directly gather at Town Hall square. - From the Town Hall square, we will head to the upper town along the Short Leg street. - Next, we'll pass by the executioner house. - Later we'll reach the Citadel. - What follows will be Dome church. - We'll then proceed to see the nobles' houses and the viewing platforms. - Afterwards, we'll return to the lower town. - Here, we'll walk along Pikk street, where we'll see the Great Guild Hall, Blackheads Hall, Kanut & Olaf guilds and more! - We'll then continue walking along Uus street, and finally end our tour at the Tower Behind the Monks. - At last, we'll be able to relaxing at the adjacent cafe, before we say our goodbyes.
