I’m a proud Québécois and have been living in Québec City for over 40 years. It’s my home — and I can’t wait to share it with you. Québec City is one of the oldest cities in North America, and its history is everywhere: in the architecture, the streets, the traditions, and the stories that have shaped it for over four centuries. During our tour, history won’t just be a backdrop — it will be part of everything we see, feel, and experience together. But there’s more. I’ll also introduce you to what I call the Québec Difference — the unique character of our society that sets us apart from the rest of the continent. This distinctiveness comes from a blend of French, British, Canadian, and North American influences. It explains our language, our values, our institutions… and yes, sometimes even our tensions and debates. The Québec Difference has given rise to deep pride, but also to political movements and cultural challenges that still shape our society today. Whether you’re a couple, a family, a solo traveler, or part of a group, my goal is to make you feel welcome and help you connect with Québec City in a meaningful way. I love sharing both the big stories and the little-known facts — from major historical turning points to local customs and everyday life. If you’re looking for something a little different, or if you have special interests or needs, just reach out! I’d be happy to tailor a tour that’s just right for you. I look forward to meeting you — and I promise, you’ll leave Québec City with a smile, great memories, and a new appreciation for this remarkable city. This 2.5-hour tour focuses on the modern history of Quebec City, from the British era through Confederation, all the way to the Quiet Revolution and beyond. Rather than the colonial past of New France, we’ll explore how political, social, and cultural forces shaped the Quebec of today. You’ll learn about British influence in architecture, institutions, and everyday life, and how the French-speaking majority gradually redefined its place in Canadian society. The tour highlights key events and ideas from the 19th and 20th centuries, such as the birth of Canadian federalism, the rise of Quebec nationalism, and the Quiet Revolution that transformed the province in the 1960s. We’ll visit symbolic places like the Parliament, the Citadel, religious landmarks, and quiet corners where big changes began. Perfect for those who want to understand modern Quebec in its North American context.
The itinerary may vary slightly depending on the starting point, and are not necessarily listed in the order they’ll be visited: * National Assembly – Quebec’s provincial parliament building * Monument Wolfe-Montcalm – the city’s first monument, rich in symbolism * Quebec City Fortifications – the only walled city north of Mexico * The Citadel – a 19th-century fortress still used by the military * Château Frontenac – the city’s iconic hotel * Plains of Abraham – a key battlefield from 1759 and now a major urban park * Terrasse Dufferin – a scenic boardwalk overlooking the St. Lawrence River * Morrin Centre – former prison, college, and cultural hub * Holy Trinity & Notre-Dame – the first Anglican and Catholic cathedrals * Parc Montmorency – birthplace of Canadian democracy

This is a walking tour only, our feet will provide all the transportation needed (and they're very good at this!). Quebec City can be hilly but we'll take it at a leisurely pace and adapt to everyone. We'll also go mostly downhill.

I really like to start my tours at the Champlain Monument (on Dufferin Terrace), the heart of Old Quebec, for the history of the city to unfold along the tour. But it it's important for you, I can pick you up anywhere inside the walls of Old Quebec or in the historic Lower town area. Please dress comfortably (good walking shoes) and appropriately for the weather.
