Join me for a 4 hour drive to visit some of the best bird-rich lakes in the Saskatoon region.

We will visit a couple of deep lakes to observe various diving ducks, grebes and pelicans. We will also visit shallow prairie sloughs and marshes to see or hear a variety of dabbling ducks, rails and marsh songbirds. Avocets, Wilson's Phalaropes and other nesting shorebirds should be seen on all summer tours.

This tour is offered from May to early September. Based upon my longtime experience as a birding guide, the greatest variety of nesting water birds occurs between late May and August. Many migratory shorebirds may also be observed during late May, July, August and early September. Migratory waterfowl peak in Autumn.

Join me for a 4 hour tour to visit the best bird-rich riverbank parks in the Saskatoon region. I love showing these parks to visitors.

This tour is offered all year except during late September and October. Based upon my longtime experience as a birding guide, the greatest variety of breeding birds of all kinds occurs between May and August. Many warblers, vireos, sparrows and other migratory songbirds may be seen in May and again from mid-August through September. Migratory waterfowl peak during October. From November through April, we will look for our special winter birds including Bohemian Waxwings and redpolls and other winter finches plus woodpeckers.

Prairie wildlflowers bloom profusely during spring and summer.

Hike trails in Beaver Creek and Cranberry Flats Conservation Areas near Saskatoon to observe songbirds.

Join me for a 3. 5 hour drive to visit some of the best locations in the Saskatoon region where Snowy Owls often winter. Although we cannot guarantee finding Snowy Owls, these are locations where they are frequently seen in winter if the local mouse population is high enough.

This tour is offered from late November to early March. Based upon my longtime experience as a birding guide, the greatest chance of finding owls occurs at this time. Although our focus will be looking for Snowy Owls, we may also find a few other wintering bird species.

Snowy Owl Birding Tour

Join me for a 8 hour driving tour from Saskatoon to observe raptors, songbirds and water birds that concentrate in this birding hotspot at all seasons of the year. Your guide has shown this area to many visitors.

In late spring and throughout summer, we will watch for rare Piping Plovers and Loggerhead Shrikes plus nesting Great Blue Herons and Osprey. We should see Western Meadowlarks, Western Kingbirds, Swainson's Hawks, Marbled Godwits, Black-billed Magpies and many woodland songbirds. We also hope to hear the beautiful song of the threatened Sprague's Pipit as it flies high above the grasslands.

In late summer and early fall, we will view the massing of over a thousand white pelicans that offer a great photographic opportunity.

In late fall, winter and early spring, this birding hotspot comes alive with numerous Bald Eagles, Greater Scaup, mergansers and many other varieties of ducks and geese. Snowy Owls, Glaucous Gulls, Golden Eagles and Gyrfalcons sometimes occur here.

Gardiner Dam Birding Tour

Whooping and Sandhill Crane 2-day Birding Tour

Join me for 2 consecutive day trips driving out of Saskatoon to view flocks of migrating Whooping Cranes and Sandhill Cranes plus large groups of Snow Geese, Ross's Geese and other goose species. A few migrating Harris's Sparrows are also possible during fall migration.

The Saskatoon region is the BEST place in the world where tourists may view large flocks of Whoopers from the road. This tour is offered from mid-September through late October when all species are possible.. During October of 2018, birders found flocks near Saskatoon containing up to 154 birds!

Join me for a 4 hour private tour to view Saskatchewan's official bird, the sharp-tailed grouse while they dance near sunrise or sunset. To impress the females, a group of male grouse run frantically across the prairie like spinning robots while stomping furiously on the ground, raising their tail, lifting their wings and emitting a variety of weird sounds. Brief duels often break out between a couple of competing males. I should be able to get you close to the action to take photos or video of this exciting ritual.

This tour is offered in April and May. Both sunrise and sunset tours are offered. Best action normally occurs near sunrise when birds are close to your vehicle. Birds are too far away to photograph on sunset tours.

This tour is offered from May through August when most grassland birds are present. The musical trills of Baird's Sparrows are best heard from mid-June through early July.
