Greetings from Halifax, and welcome to Nova Scotia! I’ve been guiding and driving private tours since 2013, and as a proud Halifax native, I love introducing visitors to the beauty, history, and flavours of our province. My tours are designed to be private, flexible, and fun—giving you access to hidden gems and scenic spots that large buses can’t reach. With 13+ years of experience and 400 tours completed on ToursByLocals alone, I bring both knowledge and personality to every trip. Whether you’re interested in iconic landmarks, local culture, great photo opportunities, or delicious seafood and wines, I’ll tailor your tour to match your interests. Tours typically run 5–8 hours, but I also offer longer options and custom multi-day adventures throughout Nova Scotia, Cape Breton, Prince Edward Island, and New Brunswick. A bit about me: I’m passionate about the outdoors, have a background in martial arts (18+ years of training and teaching self-defense), and worked in electronics engineering and document management for over two decades before returning to Nova Scotia in 2011. During the pandemic I rediscovered my love of fishing—so yes, I’ve got plenty of “big one that got away” stories to swap! I’m easygoing, enjoy a good laugh, and love sharing stories—from Nova Scotia’s rich history to my own travels around the world. Above all, I’m committed to making your time here memorable and take pride in being both Canadian and a proud Nova Scotian. For your peace of mind: • I hold a Class 4 Commercial Driver’s License, commercial insurance, and government licenses to operate in Nova Scotia, PEI, New Brunswick, and Newfoundland and Labrador • I am a Nationally Certified Tour Professional through the Tourism Council of Canada (E-merit). • I serve as Board Member of my local Business Association and am a member of the Titanic Society of Atlantic Canada and the SS Atlantic Society. • I follow all health and safety protocols; vehicles are sanitized, and I am fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Peggy's Cove, Nova Scotia's top destination, rests in a rural community on St. Margaret's Bay's eastern shore. The iconic lighthouse, perched on the rugged Atlantic coast above a lively fishing village, enhances its charm. Our talks echo old friends', exploring local history, culture, and key events like the 1917 Halifax Explosion and our Titanic connections. A visit to Fairview Lawn Cemetery, the largest Titanic victims' resting place, offers a poignant perspective. I avoid crowds, favoring offbeat paths untouched by tour buses. We linger at stops, ensuring a relaxed exploration, adhering to the schedule for a punctual return. Discover hidden culinary gems with me, savoring Nova Scotia's flavors, from lobster to fish & chips. Opt for a sit-down or grab a quick bite, leaving ample time for sightseeing. As we journey back, revel in the scenic beauty, with potential highlights and the possibility of a quiz to add an extra layer of enjoyment to our adventure!

Great tour! Would definitely recommend Mel!!
Mel was has incredible knowledge of his tours and was a pleasure to spend the day with. Truly one of the highlights of our trip!
Great tour again with Maila, our second time with her. Saw the Bay of Fundy at high and low tide, lunch in St. Martins as usual but the Fundy Forest closed due to fire danger from drought so did some other stuff around town, including a visit to the Catholic Cathedral. A very knowledgeable, personal and accommodating guide with an interesting family history.
Mel was fantastic! He was early to pick us up at the cruise port and kept us entertained throughout the entire tour. He avoided the big tour bus crowds, allowing us to enjoy the stops more and take photos of scenery (and fog), instead of crowds. Some how, he even managed to hold off the rain at every stop along the way. I highly recommend Mel!
We enjoyed every minute of our tour with Mel. He is very knowledgable, not only about history of the area but also about lobster fishing . The details he knew about the Titanic and the cemetery were fascinating as were the details of the halifax explosion. He also made the ride fun, with little trivia quizzes for us. His timing was great, so we avoided crowds and he made adjustments as needed. Gave us great recommendations for photos and food. Was a fun, entertaining and educational trip. Mel is tech savvy and used a microphone to make it easier for back seat passengers and had great info - maps, pictures etc - on his ipad. This made trip even more enjoyable. All around GREAT tour
