Explore Jasper your way

At ToursByLocals, we believe that how you explore is just as important as where you go. That’s why every Jasper tour is private, flexible, and built around you: Move at your own pace, skip the crowds, make connections and follow your curiosity. Find local guides offering private tours in Jasper for every interest, including:

Nature and Wildlife tours: Head out at sunrise with your local guide for a private wildlife drive along Maligne Lake Road to spot elk, bighorn sheep, and bears, then stretch your legs on a short walk at Maligne Canyon or around Pyramid Island as you learn how to view animals safely.

Food and Drink tours: Sample a flight at Jasper Brewing Co., grab warm treats at Bear’s Paw Bakery, and sit down to smokehouse plates at Maligne Canyon Wilderness Kitchen, or build a picnic from Patricia Street Deli to enjoy by the Athabasca River on your tour.

Adventure tours: Strap on ice cleats for a guided Maligne Canyon icewalk in winter, or in summer paddle a canoe on Pyramid Lake and tackle a guided hike up Old Fort Point, with optional whitewater rafting on a gentle stretch of the Athabasca River.

The townsite is easy to walk, but most lakes, trails, and viewpoints sit far apart with limited public transit, so you can book chauffeured tours or ask your local guide about tours with private transportation.

This isn’t a one-size-fits-all itinerary, you can tailor your private tour to match your interests, pace and personality with a local who knows Jasper inside and out.

Day trip ideas from Jasper

Base yourself in Jasper and use the park roads to reach wild valleys, lakes, and peaks on easy day trips, shaping your tours around wildlife, short hikes, or photography.

Maligne Valley, Maligne Canyon to Maligne Lake: Trace the karst landscape from a deep limestone canyon to Medicine Lake and the broad waters of Maligne Lake. You get easy walks, strong chances to spot wildlife, and classic views that fit a relaxed schedule.

Icefields Parkway to the Columbia Icefield: Drive one of Canada’s most scenic highways with stops at glacier viewpoints and short trails like Parker Ridge when conditions allow. If you like big landscapes, geology, and wide-angle photos, this route makes a full but smooth day.

Athabasca Falls and Sunwapta Falls: Short paths lead to thundering water, clear rock layers, and safe viewpoints that work in any weather. It suits families, casual walkers, and anyone who wants strong scenery without long hikes, and it pairs well with nearby picnic spots.

Mount Edith Cavell and Cavell Meadows: A winding road brings you to alpine air, hanging ice, and a trail that climbs to flower meadows with glacier views. This is a good pick if you want a half-day hike with high reward, and it keeps travel time short.

Miette Hot Springs and Sulphur Skyline: Soak in warm pools after a steady uphill hike to a broad ridge, or skip the hike and enjoy the spa and valley views. This day blends easy comfort with effort, and it stays flexible if the weather shifts.

A private tour with a local guide is the best way to really get to know a place. Skip the crowds, follow your interests, and see a side of Jasper most travellers miss.
