Being an Austrian-American in the beautiful city of Vienna and sharing its beauty and fascinating history with you turns out to be my true calling in life. I have been a private tour guide for over 12 years and I passionately love my job! I was born and raised in Vienna where I also attended Vienna University (Associate Degree in Tourism and PhD in Linguistics). After graduating I had a very fun job, I worked as a flight attendant for Austrian Airlines. I really got infected with the travel bug, and also learned that I thrive when working in an international environment. On one of my trips I met my husband and moved to Los Angeles. America became a second home to my two twin children and myself. We are all US citizens aswell as Austrian citizens. I even went to school in Los Angeles and finished a graphic design degree at UCLA. Sadly many years ago I became widowed and my kids and I moved back to my beloved city of Vienna where I went to school again to become a certified Austrian tour guide - a demanding training of about 2 years. When it comes to my tours my top priority is to give you the most memorable experience possible in whatever time frame we have. I will show you the most important, and also the most charming parts of the city and instruct you on the sites and the history of Vienna. My tours are (hopefully) interesting, informative and humorous. I LOVE history, I have a profound interest in the rise of the house of Habsburg, its downfall after World War I, Austria's dark path leading to National Socialism and World War II. I am interested and quite knowledgeable about Jewish history in Vienna, starting in the Middle Ages, the dark years in Austrian history and the contemporary discussion of art restitution. Please check out my "Women in Gold tour"! One more thing: I absolutely love children. As a mother of 16 year old twins I have a good amount of experience what kids and young adults like and what they find rather boring, please check out my "Kids Foodie and Fun Tour"! (during summer months) If you have read so far that means that you are indeed considering me as your tour guide. Please do contact me and I hope we get to know each other very soon in Vienna! I promise that I will do my best to make this a memorable experience for you and your family! Best regards from this side of the world, Susanne Fully Certified Austrian Guide PhD in Linguistics (German, English and French) Associate Degree in Tourism Graphic Design & Photography Degree from UCLA Extension - Go Bruins! I do not have a car of my own but I can arrange for a separate car and driver. Vienna is a city like New York City where owning a car is not necessary and if so a hassle with parking.

Not everything in Vienna is beautiful. One thing that is not beautiful is the city's initial fascination with Adolf Hitler. Adolf Hitler was an Austrian aspiring artist who came to Vienna as a young man trying to be accepted at the Academy of Fine Arts. Though not without talent, he was still declined. Angry and fed up with Vienna Hitler left for Germany where he started his political career. Many Austrians (about 65%) were longing to be united with the new economic superpower of Germany. In March 1938 Hitler marched into Austria and annexed Austria, making it the Eastern Mark of the Third Reich. Initially people greeted the Fuehrer like a popstar. Then later on many lost their enthusiasm . . but it was too late. This tour will visit important places relevant to Hitler's life in Vienna. There will be an honest discussion about national socialism, Austria's initial fascination with the Fuehrer, the Holocaust and Austria's dealing with its shameful past. Join me on this very informative tour!

This was excellent! She was very friendly, knowledgeable, and a very good storyteller. She was able to tailor the tour to our wishes, which was, because of mobility issues, to settle in to one place and learn some history. She did that for us by securing a table at cafe central, where we ate the most delicious cake and learned so much, had all our questions answered. She is a delight! Smart, engaging, thoughtful, we highly recommend her.
Susanne is an excellent tour guide. I highly recommend her. Her knowledge of history is vast, and she will provide you with this historical context for her tours. She is friendly and warm and will make you feel welcome and comfortable.
As an avid study of WWII history, I didn't know what to expect before my tour. Susanne blew me away with her knowledge and her willingness to answer all of our questions. This was a FANTASTIC tour that I would highly recommend to anyone interested in the history of WWII in Austria, and Susanne is a wonderful guide.
The tour Vienna in the Third Reich was excellent! Our family of 4 loved Susanne's knowledge of history and great storytelling filled with interesting facts. Not only we learnt about the Third Reich, we were shown other historical landmarks of Vienna on our route like the Imperial Crypt. The tour lasted 3 hours and the time flew by. Next time we would consider taking a longer tour with a short coffee break. Next time we're in Vienna, we'll get another tour by Sussane!
We were so pleased to have taken the "Vienna in the Third Reich" tour with Susanne. It was a difficult time in history and Susanne explained so thoroughly the role of Austria in WW II as well as Hitler's connection to Austria. We talked as we walked to various monuments and locations related to this era. Susanne has such a unique quality of sharing her knowledge in a way that is very accessible to her audience. She also showed us lovely hidden courtyards along the way. She is a gem! Highly recommended!
