Hello! My name is Raphael and as you can probably guess Vienna is the most interesting city in the world. Like every other city. But Vienna is special to me because it is the place where I was born and raised. It's also the place where I have been doing tours for tourists for the last ten years. Originally I studied to become a teacher of history, but it is so much more fun to discover history in the city than in a class room. Also: fewer exams (which, surprisingly, means that people pay more attention). In all my tours I try to connect the past with the present and show that people back then where not so different from people nowadays - give or take a daily shower. All my tours are suitable for children. If you tell me in advance, I will put back in all the bits that usually scare the adults. If you are a teacher, all the tours are also suitable for school or student groups and I will happily modify them to emphasize any topic of your choosing. Certified Tour Guide in Austria Certified Tour Guide for Schloss Schönbrunn More than ten years experience in guiding tourists in the Vienna State Opera and the Music Society I am not a driver, but I can accompany you in your vehicle.

About 2000 years ago the Romans came to the place we now call Vienna. And then they never left. Well, the Roman Empire may have collapsed, but its heritage can still be found all over the city. On this tour we will follow the traces left by the Roman settlement. Parts of their buildings are still here, as ruins or as parts of other buildings. Others may have flowers at the centre of their roundabouts - we have Roman ruins! But the Romans left more behind than just their abandoned homes. Their whole culture influenced what came afterwards, as you can see when you are standing in front of the parliament and recognize the last-but-one Habsburg emperor, Franz Joseph I, dressed as a Roman emperor. On this tour you will learn how the Habsburg monarchs saw themselves as the successors of the Roman emperors, how that believe shaped the city of Vienna and Austria as a whole and why emperor Marc Aurel thought this was a place to die for (well, at least he died in this area).
Starting point: in front of the parliament We will then continue towards the Hofburg and from there walk towards the Michaelerplatz. Then we will follow the old outlines of the military camp and end the tour at the Hoher Markt in front of the Roman museum.
