Visit Roosevelt Island a unique 2-mile-long island considered part of Manhattan wedged between Manhattan and Queens. The best way to experience the Island is by taking the red tram from Manhattan's Upper Eastside @ 59th St. & 2nd Ave. You will get awesome aerial views of Manhattan's Eastside and skyline. Meet me on the Island a place that New Yorkers and visitors have never step foot on. We will walk along Main St. (the island's only street) and discuss the names given to Roosevelt Island like Welfare Island, Blackwell Island over the years. You will see the Smallpox ruins, hospital and talk about the asylum and more. Discover the newly built FDR Freedom Park, Cornell Center that is off the grid and FDNY Special Services Unit. A surprise stop may be included such as visiting the community garden on the island where they are composting (subject to change without notice). We will pop into the new hotel. Learn about the best time to see the Cherry Blossoms, a hidden gem, and a view of the Manhattan skyline.
Margaret is a delightful guide! Our tour was fun, informative, and relaxed. Two of our group walk with walking sticks/cane and Margaret adjusted the tour accordingly. Roosevelt Island is super interesting and Margaret’s expertise made it even more special!

Maggie gave us a delightful walk around a beautiful island. Maggie is very easy-going and informative she once lived on this island. It is much different than we had anticipated. It's clean, quiet, family oriented with many residences and rich in history. The views of both Queens in New York City are fabulous. The tram ride over their east river is fun. If you're looking to get away from the hustle, bustle of Manhattan, this is a quick and inexpensive trip.
We really enjoyed the tour. Margaret was a great tour guide. She was very knowledgeable about Roosevelt Island. She made such an effort to connect with all of us on topics we expressed interest in. It was a cold morning, but she did a wonderful job of making sure we were all comfortable. She also recommended a great restaurant that we ate at and loved after the tour.
This was a wonderful tour of Roosevelt Island! Maggie was engaging, considerate of our needs and our interests. She was able to pepper history and development of the island with personal insight and experiences. Touring with Maggie was like touring with a treasured friend. I can't recommend her and this tour highly enough.

In the true Spirit of tours by locals, Margaret has lived on Roosevelt Island and is very familiar with the historical sites, the modern era, and how the island has built up and changed over time, because she once lived there. She also gives a lot of good general information about New York City if you have questions. She tapered this tour to our interest. We highly recommend her.

To get to Roosevelt Island there are several options: Subway - F train to Roosevelt Island, Ferry, Taxi, Tram. The Tram has become overwhelmingly crowded. If taking the Tram allow plenty of time or plan to take it off the Island after the tour.
