I'm a native New Yorker and I have a great love and knowledge of New York City, from Times Square and The Great White Way to Brooklyn and many lesser-known but no less interesting sites. We can visit Harlem, the home of Jazz in NYC and of course the Battery to view the Statue of Liberty. All of New York's neighborhoods have a story to tell - from Wall Street to Central Park West where many celebrities dwell. I tell true and fascinating stories of New York's past and more recent history. I'll give you something to write home about. The Five Points in lower Manhattan was New York's most dangerous neighborhood from the 1840s right up to the end of the 19th century. In the 1840s the population was 90% Irish immigrants. Irish gangs fought battles with clubs, axes, & guns to which sprung up to defend the district against 3rd & 4th generation English & German-American gangs. The ethnic demographic changed over the course of the next 60 years. In the early 20th century young criminals like Charlie "Lucky" Luciano, Al Capone, and Frank Costello got there start there.
We'll see: - Columbus Park, epicenter of the former Five Points neighborhood. - The Tombs, The Manhattan Detention Center originally built in 1838 - The New York State Supreme Court, aka the "Law & Order" courthouse - The Thurgood Marshall U.S. Supreme Court Building - The "Tweed Courthouse" now the NYC Dept. of Education HQ - The African Burial Ground And more!
