Aloha, I’m Kellen, a Maui local and the owner of Local Maui Tours. I’ve been guiding private tours on the island for over 10 years, helping visitors experience Maui in a way that’s personal, flexible, and far from the typical group tour. I got my start with Maui’s Private Guides, where I saw firsthand how different a one-on-one experience can be. Instead of a crowded “cattle car” tour, I’m able to tailor each day to my guests, whether that means exploring the Road to Hana, visiting waterfalls and black sand beaches, finding hidden gems, or stopping at local food stands along the way. Before guiding full-time, I studied at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, focusing on geology, Hawaiian studies, and botany. Over the years, that knowledge has become a natural part of my tours, helping me share not just what you’re seeing, but why it’s special, from the island’s volcanic formation to its unique plants and cultural background. Outside of guiding, I have a deep connection to both the land and the ocean. I’ve spent years planting and caring for trees, and I value seeing them grow and give back to the ʻāina. I started surfing at a young age and later became a proficient kiteboarder and instructor, and that connection to the ocean is something I naturally bring into the experience when sharing Maui. I also stay active through sports and fitness, which helps me keep up with the energy and flexibility needed for full-day adventures. In addition, I studied at the Oregon Culinary Institute, and with the growth of local food spots across the island, I enjoy incorporating great food into the day — so your tour can easily become a bit of a foodie experience as well. My tours are fully private and customizable, and my vehicle is equipped with everything you need for a comfortable day, including fresh towels, sunscreen, umbrellas, and more. Safety and timing are always a priority, especially on Maui’s narrow and winding roads, so you can relax and enjoy the experience. What drives me most is making sure guests don’t just see Maui, but truly experience it. This island is always evolving, and I see it as my responsibility to stay connected, keep learning, and represent it the right way. If you’re looking for a genuine, local experience, beyond the typical stops, I’d be stoked to show you around.

This private West Maui adventure explores one of Maui’s most rugged and less-visited regions on a 6–6.5 hour coastal loop. Unlike the Road to Hana, this route offers dramatic ocean cliffs, lava formations, remote valleys, and small Hawaiian villages in a more relaxed half-day experience. Travel a full circular route of West Maui with a local guide who adapts the day to conditions and group pace. Expect scenic viewpoints, light walking stops, and optional ocean-side exploration. Guests may enjoy local food stops along the way, including banana bread and roadside stands depending on availability. Optional snorkel stop at Honolua Bay (bring your own gear, conditions permitting). This is a wilder, quieter side of Maui most travelers never see.
Dragon’s Teeth – 30 min Honolua Bay – 30 min (optional snorkel) Cliff viewpoints – 15 min Nakalele Blowhole – 25 min Kahakuloa Village – 30 min (Lorraine’s Shave Ice) Karen Lei’s Art Gallery – 10 min Jungle Lookout – 10 min ʻĪao Valley – 45 min (entry $25 vehicle + $5 person, weather/access permitting) Maui Tropical Plantation – 45 min lunch Olowalu – 10 min (if time permits)
