Hello and greetings from Antalya. My name is Ismet and was born in Antalya in 1977. I am already working as a tour guide for more than 20 years and as an english teacher I will be always pleased to introduce my hometown to you with it's historical background. I guided to various people from USA till Japan, and as a teacher I can easily find a common language with many people. I have a deep interest in history, as I grew up near by an ancient town named as Perge. Later on luckily, I have finished the course of Professional tour guiding by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Turkey where we studied greek mythology, history of religions, history of Roman-Byzantium and Ottoman empires. For two years ın 2003-4 I guided the religous groups in Biblical sites within Turkey. I love being well-planned and punctual because I was serving as an English teacher in a military high school. My principle is ; rather than trying to solve the problem, not to let it happen! For ten years I was the chief guide of a world-wide Russian Tour operator (carrying about 4 million tourists to 26 countries in the world) I grew up in Antalya smelling, feeling, tasting, experiencing and enjoying the beauties, history and cultures of this land. May be I am new here in toursbylocals but have great experience in guiding. Will be always pleased to share my knowledge and to help you to make the most of the day! Overview of your Antalya tour
The Seven Churches of Asia as stated in the Book of Revelation are Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, and Laodicea. Today, all these are existing names in Turkey as they are ancient cities protected by the Culture and Tourism Ministry of the Republic of Turkey. They are located in the Izmir, Manisa, and Denizli provinces of Turkey. Smyrna is the ancient name of Izmir city which will possibly be your starting point of a tour of the Seven Churches of Asia. Smyrna is located in Izmir city and Pergamum is only 2 hours away from Izmir. Thyatira is located one hour east of Pergamum. Sardis and Philadelphia Churches are very close to each other and they are less than an hour away from Thyatira. The furthest Church of Revelation is Laodicea which is two hours away from Sardis. To complete the tour of Seven Churches, you need to drive to Ephesus which is 2, 5 hours away from Laodicea. The House of the Virgin Mary and the Basilica of Saint John is within the vicinity of Ephesus.
Your Antalya tour itinerary
Day 1 - Arrive in Antalya -(2 hours 45 minutes drive from Antalya) Visit Laodicea and Hierapolis. Laodicea very early became a seat of Christianity and a bishopric thanks to the large Jewish community. After Laodicea, you can explore the world famous Pamukkale and Hierapolis ancient city and see the Martyrdom of Saint Philip as well as watching the sunset over fertile plains of Aegean region. Overnight in Pamukkale. Day 2- Ephesus & House of Virgin Mary & The Basilica of St. John. House of the Virgin Mary which was declared as a pilgrimage point for the Christian World. After seeing the House of The Virgin Mary, you will drive to Ephesus Ancient city and see the Church of Ephesus. The Apostle John lived in Ephesus from 52 to 54. Overnight in Selçuk. Day 3 -Visit Smyrna, Pergamon and Thyatira. Overnight in Akhisar. Day 4-Visit Sardis, Philadelphia. After all we drive to Antalya with a stop near by Salda Lake!Of course thiis a programm suggested by me and I can customize it according to your wishes.
